Seriously, if anyone is having problems with a carbsmart sensor, and has an anodized head, try installing it without the heat shrink. The anodize will not conduct electricity. you will need a non electrical conductive adhesive, such as RTV, or Arctic Alumina. Arctic Silver is somewhat electrically condustive.

If it's a 100K thermistor then how about replacing it with this?

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/...oduct&R=0198961

Using the same method as the venom probe.

What'd ya think?

Beta value should be 4250

The venom method might be good but its slow. The only way I got my eagletree to record the same temps as the carbsmart was to use a loop a sensor alright but strip the insulation and solder it at 90 degrees with the wires and insert it like a probe

Geeezzz fine here

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/...oduct&R=1646297

At least it's a sealed package as opposed to CSM's crappy soldered surface mount, although only measures to 125c.

Must be a better solution out there.

Lol

How much do you think is CSM's limit? 125C also... the 130C setting is bogous

Tony

PS - The link you gave is the sensor they use. Murata 100K Beta 4250

Can't be, the link I gave was for a radial package, :

http://docs-europe.electrocomponent...66b8009bc0f.pdf

CSM use a surface mount version.

I'm not sure that it is . I've got a data graph from work and I'm pretty sure it is the Murata Sensor , it's certainly the same package and Beta value etc and it goes up to 130 degrees C .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Has anybody fitted one of these thermistors?
If so, how?
I like the idea of making my own but not sure how you go about it, and I have an RS store just down the road from me so could pick some up in 5 minutes.

Should be just a direct swap.

nivlek: There isn't one single murata thermistor with a beta value of 4250 that goes over 125C. I've checked over 90 different murata thermistors and none goes above that limit.

Since the CSM doesn't account deviation to calculate the speed at which it should move the servo, anything above 125C is pretty useless.

Tony ,
I asked one of the design engineers where the graph came from , and it turns out that it's one he plotted it himself ! So the sensor he checked still survived at 130 degrees C , even although that may be above the manufacturers listed maximum rating . There was still a significant resistance change from 125 degrees C (2778.24 Ohms) to 130 degrees C (2433.50 Ohms) .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Oh they won't burn up at 125C... only thing is that the manufacturer doesn't warranty reading accuracy above that point

Not expensive at all.

The specs on part number NTSD0WF104FE1B0 are almost identical to the sensor used in the carbsmart, the only spec that is different is the rated electric power which I don't think is a problem, but it is the heavy duty sensor not surface mount.

I'm ordering some from -

Well I got the sensors and they look great, I got the ones with pre-insulated leads.

BigNose13, if you are interested I'll send you one made up with the servo leads, cause I have the original sensor mounted on my YS50 and have yet to even maiden the heli, I won't be testing the new sensor any time soon.

Here are some pics.

Now thats a quality sensor that they should have used. Can I get some royalties for being the first to suggest it?

Postage to the UK? you can get em from RS components here.

http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/...oduct&R=1646297

85p each with a minimum order quantity of 5, hardly gonna break the bank is it. I might order some and start making my own CMS sensor leads and market and sell them, either as a wrap round removable type or epoxy/RTV stick in type, gotta be worth a punt eh
