... I wish!

I read the info about Spektrum giving away 2.4GHz receivers on a buy one get one free deal (after buying a system). Since I was heading down to Toledo today for the show, I decided to ask the guys at the Futaba booth. He admitted they have been talking internally about trying to come up with a similar deal. He couldn't say anything other than "you might want to wait on making any purchases".

So what do you guys think? I am a pretty faithful Futaba flyer and already have a TM-8/608 combo on the way from Tower and picked up a couple 607's today at the show ($79!), but still am going to need a few more receivers. So I'm really not considering the competition, but just am wondering if I should hold off on completing my receiver purchases for a while.

I sure hope Futaba does something like the Spektrum guys...

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

I was going to buy two more 6014's, but two new planes are showing up next week. I will have to hold for a bit on RX's as I need several high torque servos, DA85/muffler and a few other items. So I get to see if there is a special offer later.

... and just to reitterate: I wasn't told anything specific! So don't read more into this. This is mostly wishful thinking on my part... but the Futaba guy did recommend waiting just a bit.

I just splashed for a 12FG 2.4...so it would be nice if Futaba could come up with something special to soften the blow with Rx's

It will be interesting if they do a two for one.
The RX's will show in stock and then out of stock very quickly. IMO.
Let's see if it beats the record, under 24hours.
I will be in for more than a few.

The 14 ch Rx's are really overkill for a helicopter and I would consider it specalised and I can therfore understand the extra cost.

The FASST 8Ch is pretty much an everyday bread and butter Rx and is IMHO overpriced here in the UK. Fasst 8ch Rx is £85-90 whilst a 8ch 35MHz is around £45-50..so cant really agree on that one I3DM

radimani With the Futaba FASST Rx's, To get the Servo synch facility and the 2048 bit you need to buy the 8ch version approx £85 to £99.

The JR/Spektrum equivelant is 9ch, 2048Bit BUT also has MODEL MATCH which Futaba lack. Model Match itself will likely save many more models than any other feature currently available. £75-£99.

So sorry cant agree on your reasoning..

Barney, I totally agree your opinion. But I think that R617FS is, as someone checked, ok for CCPM since its servo output sequence is 7,6,1,2,3,4,5. That means, for ccpm using 6,1,2, there's almost no timimg lag between 3 servo outputs. I really need model match but I like FHSS to keep secure RF link. I'm OK with staying on 1024 but I like T7C's minimum latency for all 2.4GHz radios available so far.
I can not still get it though...
By the way, is Spektrum available in your local shops? Since I wonder if the Spektrum is legal in Europe. In EU, only FHSS can use 100mW output power. DSSS like Spektrum is limited by 10mW.

Shouldn't there be two columns: 607 and 617 (in 7 channel mode) ?

I could care less about model match. If you can't read the name on the model on your screen before you turn on the model, you've got to get your head in the game. I'd much rather have the solid connection of FASST, than worry about the problems some folks have had with Spectrum's lock-outs and low voltage problems any day. But to each his own....

I have been paying ~$270 for the syn 9 chnl pcm RX's.
So under $200 for 14 is not to shabby.
I have been flying since 25+ years without model match.
I put my money on the 14mz, picture and name both, I have to be
blind in both eyes and a few other things to not get the right model.
I also do a preflight surface movement check which should also catch a major model mismatch, not one setup similar.

For those concerned about latency, the model match data takes up some very small amount of time.

Any way interested in seeing if Futaba does a $special deal on RX's.
I have to wait as I have a DA85 and servos to get first.

Exactly! Even if I turn the model off just long enough to refuel, I do a quick pre-flight to check the major components on the heli, and when I turn the transmitter and model back in, I check the speed and movement of the servos (I've caught a failing servo that way before). Sooner or later, these are some of the important things everyone learns as they progress in the hobby.

rdalcanto...It is highly likely the Futaba Rx's will likely drop out around 3.5v too..Its actually not an RX problem at all, its a battery/wiring voltage power limitation.

The reason it was such an issue with the SpeKtrum was the slow re-boot times, sometimes in excess of 2-3 secs..The latest Spektrum Rx's have quick connect and you can send your current Rx's in for a free update for this.

Ive flown Dx7/Ar7000 and logged around 1500 flights and its been 100% solid for me to date

As for Model Match..I've been modelling for 30+ years and Model Match is a model saver and more importantly an extremely effective SAFETY feature. (I'm an Examiner with the Scottish Aeromodellers Assoc, for Planks/Thermal and Heli and have witnessed wrong model selection many times over the years, even in competition!)

The reason most of us are so keen to move over to 2.4Ghz was/is to prevent shotdowns by the local club clown.(theres always one)+ the other benifits we know about.

Model Match totally eliminates this very same person from selecting an incorrect model.

Whilst FASST gives a very robust radio link, it could be even smarter by offering Model Match.

In a way FASST is only as safe as the Guy standing next to you..just be aware he may be Club Clown
