e-BEAM Beam E4 > Help Needed in Trimming Beam E4

I'm currently running a Beam E4. I have already setup and leveled the swash with a swash leveler. Apart from that, I have also checked the CG of the bird (Slightly tail heavy with canopy and lipo).

However, when I bring it into a hover, the bird has a tendency to nose down and roll a little to the right) Question is...is this normal? This shouldn't happen if I level my swash right?

How do I go about correcting this? Should I just adjust the trims or should like adjust the linkage rods on the swash?

Will appreciate any tips or advice.

Every time I've used a leveler on any heli I've never needed any further trimming so IMO it's not normal. Did you level the swash at full collective throw as well as center stick? Maybe your getting some interaction at other than center stick - just a thought.

That's the weird thing. I've already double checked that there are no swash interaction. And my blades are tracking okay...

One thing to check also is to make sure all your links are silky smooth. Also, when you raise and lower the collective, make sure it does so in a level manner top to bottom. Make sure your servos are firmly mounted as well. Make sure your linkages are the right length from swash to blade grips.

Also, what servos? Pics would be helpful!

like Marshall Burrou said, make sure your ball links are really smooth.

When I first built mine I thought it wouldn't matter but It kept drifting during a flight.. so I went in and reamed out the ball links and it just flew super nice after that. I use the JR ball link sizing tool, you can get it at heliproz:

Marshal and Coaster are both correct!!

I had this same problem! After resizing the problem went away. It says in the manual to resize, it made all the differece in the world.

Personally I am not really a fan of swash levelers. Try to make sure your servo arms and links are a perfect 90 degrees or as close to it as you can... This will level the swash and then go back in with the swash tool and get it more fine tuned and level.

Are the ball sizes big enough to fit a ball sizing tool? If not what are you guys doing to fix that minor problem? I have slightly pinched the link with a plier and that worked great. Just have to do it softly or you'll break the link!!! Hahahaa did that one too many times!

Finally managed to trim the Beam!! Turns out, it was a faulty swash leveler...it wasn't completely flat...Got myself a new one...made sure my servo horns were 90, measured the links with a vernier caliper...

Now the bird's flying nice and level...As for the ball links, I used a ball link resizer. However, note that if you were to follow the manual's instruction in measuring the links, you normally have to twist the link rods almost all the way in. When that happens, the rods will squeeze the links and make them tight.

What I did was..took a dremel and cut the link rods a bit shorter so they will not touch the ball links. Hope this tips helps.

Here are a couple ways to check your setup or level your swash without leveler:

The trueblood levelers work great but if you find yourself somewhere without the tool or you want to get setup while your waiting for the tool to arrive, there are other ways that work just as well. Check out this thread with pictures of the allen wrench trick, very neat idea.

Also, you can use this technique which works perfectly (I've checked it with the trueblood leveler several times). No need to remove the head above the swash with this technique.

U know its really east making one.. Its probably cheaper than buying one too. All it requires is a washer, and two bubble levelers from your local hardware store. Myself, I just eyeball it...
