Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > sure is quiet here....

Anyone still flying Audacity or did everyone move on? Boy its been quiet around here. I've been flying my Tiger lately and really like it. It is particularly solid in fast forward flight. It comes out of a loop flatter than my Panteras by a little and much cleaner than my raptors. By that I mean you can just sort finish the loop and continue level flight. The Panteras are almost the same but the Raptors need a conscious push to maintain forward flight when exiting a loop.

It has been quiet!

I really haven't had too much to report. I haven't worked on any of my helis in about 6 weeks. I charged the batteries last weekend in anticipation of going out but never made it. So busy right now and the snow has put a damper on things. When the sun is out I've been trying to get the dogs out to the lakes that have just opened up.

Maybe this upcoming weekend.

Cheers, Shayne

It's funny you should say that. My son is at Ft. Leonardwood in Missouri and he said he was surprised to hear a familiar sound of a 2-stroke model engine. He looked up and saw them flying r/c airplanes on base! I just sent him the current Model Aviation to keep him company.

Hey ! I remember that same thing! I think they have a field nearby. I went there for basic back in '97!

Yep, my 19yo is in the Reserves, he trained at Leonardwood. He is here in Cincinnati while his unit is still deployed in Iraq. He got out of Basic last Fall. My 20yo is in Basic now. The 19yo wants to go to Iraq to defuse IED's.

Been working on both ends of the candle. This Thursday we have the Brass showing up. 1 star and a few birds to check out our proto type.
Hope to fly this weekend after the snow melts a bit more.

I've been flying the heck out of my Pantera. 50+ flights and zero issues. Leaves little to talk about. Although I try from time to time. Just not enough of us.

Nice to know that your flying. With all the snow and sh$t I am in a no fly zone. Just flying the 400 in the building. Getting stick time on the sim.

Well, you got one more hoping to get the "Tiger Grin"...After chatting with John and reading about the opinion of others here, I have purchased two Tigers in the last week. After reading several comments concerning how stable they are and I do mostly Scale applications, I am looking forward to trying one out. Any tips or helpful hints will be appreciated.

Tips for assembling the Tiger would include, assemble it per the instructions and replace all of the ball links if you find or crack a single one. A number of us have had a cronic problem with the ball links. I had several cracked just sitting in the package and broke several trying to install them. It's too good aflying heli to avoid the kit because of this, just know you need to have some Thunder Tiger or Mavrikk brand ball links on hand and replace them all! Set it up for a neutral CG or very slightly aft and go see how you like it. I have 2 Pantera's flying right now but at the moment I really like the way the Tiger flies. I flipped my head around so the main blade grip attach points LEAD the blades rather than trail but since you are flying scale, you probably want stability so leave them trailing the grips. Flipping them is supposed to increase response rate.

Speaking of ball links. I had one pop off when I turned my Pantera on yesterday at the field. I obviously forgot to switchout one of the stock ones when building it. The whole think just snapped off. Would have been critical if it hadn't happened on the ground.

Yikes. I havent had that problem on the Pantera, only the Tiger. On Pantera #1 I used the stock links. I changed them all just to be prudent on Pantera #2 and then assembled #3 with the stock ones again. #4 is NIB. Using the links I got with the Tiger kit would have been suicide. Glad you caught that on the ground.

Guys,

I've been following this thread and noticed the comments on the ball links. I just order a Tiger this past weekend. Will I have an issue with the parts in my kit? If so, should I just go ahead and replace/not use the included ones?

Thanks,
Bill

I've had 3 used Tigers and 1 new, 1 Pantera, and bought lots of linkage kits from Audacity and have had no ball link failures. I fly in -20C weather as well. Maybe it's just luck of the draw that some guys are having issues and I've just been lucky. Maybe there was a bad batch? All you can do is check when you build or replace them all in the beginning if you're worried. Cheap part, but very important, so if you're concerned then replace.

just to chime in. I bought Pantera #2 last week, this kit totally had the 'cracked in the package' link problem for the servo linkage. My first build that ordered from A-main didn't have any link problems. I think the second kit was an older batch as the LHS had them in for some time. They were getting tired of sitting on them and I got a deal. Interesting note; the 'pre build' assemblies were different as well. Less assembly in the new (older?) kit, also had red lock-tite on the spindle bolts, even though I needed to grease it, different set of fins (angled horz. rather than flat).

Time to make some noise.
I have all the Pantera's ready for the fun fly comming up.
The Tiger Night ship gets her test hop this weekend.
BBC. Time to pull the curtain off the beast. She has been flying great and JB will let me fly her with all the new stuff.
Sorry I had to fly under cover as we got the BBC dialed in.
I have to tell all of you that JB wanted a few to fly and "bust" his design before sending it out to all of you. That was a good choice on his part. We did have problems with the Beta parts. Err Major problems That is how we roll folks. A few problems and some new tooling fixed the issues. Your BBC upgrade kit is just around the bend. I will be showing off the ship with the new look in less then a week.

I've been quiet in the Audacity forum because the Tiger and Pantera continue to fly with no issues. I have burned nearly 10 gallons of fuel this year so far between the Audacity models and have little to comment on at this point. They just go! I've been quietly building the first of two Raptor 60s. The first will be OS61 powered and I'll make the most of what I have to work wth to make it more 3D like. The 2nd one will be a full out Raptor 90 3D only it'll be geared and powered by the OS70 and swing 690mm Radix. Of course Raptors is not what we talk about here so I've been sort of quiet.

Marty, The problem is that the Pantera and Tigers are solid ships.
Your right. We fly the poop out of them and no issues.
I remember back in the day when all sorts of posts with problems showed up. That was years ago and I think the new breed of pilots and model needed to grow. The few posts I see are from Newbees and thats good. We now have a great base of pilots that can help.
The BBC will be the next thing. I flew her last week and put it on the shelf. She is ready to rock and roll at the fun fly. I found that the loops, roll, flips are awsome. You just can't bang the sticks with this one and you have to be smoooooth. I have been flying the BBC in 15mph winds and is rock solid. The stock pantera is a handfull.
The new EVO90 has a set of CF tail boom supports mounted tonight and look sharp.
