I was practicing loops and rolls today and at the end of a roll I lost the engine, Thought I had a flame out but found out I had a radio lockout and the heli went into failsafe mode. Engine to idle, Pitch to 0 degrees and Co-Pilot on.

Well when I got to the heli the engine was running at idle, and it was sitting upright. Broken landing gear, bent spindle and flybar, No other Damage The main shaft and the blades are fine.

I had no control of it at all, the Failsafe and the Co-Pilot landed it, Not bad (damage wise) for being 50 to 100 feet up when it happend. Not sure exact hight since it was aways away from me when it happend.

I checked my battery and it still had 1386ma of the 2000ma left, I was on my second flight of the last charge, Still trying to figure out what could have caused the lockout.

Yes, it is a PCM JR 649 but this is the first time it has ever gone into fail safe on me (except for testing it of course). I have never had any problems with it locking up.

I will never use a non-PCM radio on a Heli, Just not safe and with a Co-Pilot on board the fail safe saved my alot of money in repairs.

It is a Raptor 30 V1, The only carbon in it is a carbon fiber frame brace.

Maybe you have a glitch or a static electric problem its the crystal "broken" search this three things and if you dont have find nothing of them change rx

Could be the reciever or crystal? Also had a similar incident where my ON/OFF switch vibrated into OFF.....

I've since done a successfull range check and flown it. It could not be the switch, The Volt watch was still green after the crash and fail safe would not have activated if there was no power. I guess it could be a crystal. However I was informed by another flyer that he was hit twice just prior to my heli going down, He landed in time to see my heli go down.

I have heard from a few plankers that on the east end of the field they have also been experancing random interference which is where I was flying at the time. It does not seem to matter what freq your on either.

I think I will replace the crystals just to be safe though.

Got one, and the freq was clear before I started flying. Does not help while you are flying as you are transmitting on your channel.
