Hey Tom,
As someone said earlier, the beacon seems to be dimmer than the rest of the LED's. I have found that same thing. It is nothing worth complaining about because it still looks great. But I was just wondering why you think it would appear dimmer? Maybe it is just part of the dimming up, dimming down process. But even the flash in between these is not that bright.

Is your beacon plugged into it's own spot on your reciever or is it plugged into the mini flash?

Hm... the flash in between the ramp-up/ramp-down is on full brightness (+5 volts). Maybe it not "ON" long enough? I remember experimenting with this "ON" time a bit and don't remember a stark difference in brightness. One thing I did not want to mention is that I have been running a Mini-Beacon now for almost a week (just testing) and I just found out a few days ago that I am running the LED (1 watt Luxeon) without a series resistor! (suppose to be 120 ohms or something like that). Well, I have not yet ruined the LED suprisingly... but now that I think of it, it is "probably" OK since the LED only sees reduced current 98% of the time (if that).

SO... I'm not advocating that everyone remove the series current limiting resistor but... it is certainly worth giving it a try! (of course only try this on fast flashing LEDs and/or the Mini-Beacon).

gadgetdude,

I noted the LED seems dimmer with the mini beacon when I got it too. It works great Tom, I figured the LED is not "on" long enough as it ramps and we are only seeing the max light for a split second. I have a few more red LED that you sent and will try one without the resistor. Whats the worst that is gonna happen aye

I just got home and I want to try the new program. I'm not a computer geek so can you walk be through it? I click on the link and I go to the page with the list of files but I'm not sure what to do with them. Thanks

Hello; Heliproz?... I need to order more parts.

Darn... just as I was typing up a tutorial!
(only kiddin' )

Really glad to hear it works with Vista.
I am ultimately surprised!

One thing I did noticed with the new SETUP program is that it does not load in all the sample Mini-Flash pattern files (maybe a dozen or so). I think it only loads in 2 or 3. I'll try to make one more update to it in the next day or so, such that it adds these (not required but good to have and learn from). If you wanted to... you could copy those data files (files that end in ".dat" ) from the old Mini-Flash directory to the new Mini-Flash directory.

Now these are cool! (45 LEDs in one package)
http://cgi.ebay.com/2x1157-Super-RE...1713.m153.l1262

Maybe a little too big for being a "beacon" on some of those smaller helis... but nevertheless a neat idea!

Tom; is there a way to print out the mini flash user's manual? I can only get one page to print.

Sure... I probably should post this on my webpage as a downloabable/printable User's Manual (please note though that some images are a little out of date due to minor changes I made to the software... I'll update soon):

Hey Tom,

Those 45 LED lights look very nice, only $10 too. If they were not all connected one could make a real rotating beacon with them.

Very Impressive! Nice job gadgetdude!
You guys were right about the new beacon idea... definitely looks more realistic than a simple flashing LED!

Thanks AdeH!
I always thrive to satisfy the customers! If you guys have any other ideas, throw them my way!

Hey folks, I have been working on a little webpage re: LEDs, what are they, how do you use them, how to build (solder) them and how to install them in your R/C model.

Please take a look and tell me if there is something missing or something else I should concentrate on... this is the first cut.

Gadgedude,

Awesome, man I should of bought the painted heli I really have to get working on mine again.

Tom,

The page looks GREAT!!! That is exactly the type of information beginners and the more experienced need. Now I know what a series resistor is needed. Good job!
