gadjetdude...

what mechanics are you putting into it ?

My 600 anti-rotation bracket would interfere there from what I know and I am waiting until I put them in to move it a bit.

I was wondering about yours.

Elgreco,

He is putting a 600E in the Bell. The anti-rotation (AR) link does interfer with the body. I flipped my grips etc around to make it so the + pitch happenes with the swash moving down. My hope is to be able to cut the AR just below the fuse.

will see

gadgetdude,

AWESOME, looking good. I should be able to play with the light today.

I too ordered a set of lights from rclighting.net and endorse jonnyj99's comments. Independent battery required, which I think is an advantage as there is no compromise between brightness and power requirements from main battery.

Elgreco,
I am using Richard Clausen's build thread as a template for mine. See how Richard cut the top:

Also following yours on the Trex forums. Good job!

OOOOO that is right, the E version has the anti-rotation on the BACK.

But the nitro version has it on the front. On the back it is not that much of an issue, looks fine overall, but on the front it really needs a chunk taken out of the fuse. No good.

MINI BECON,
Works great, tiny. I noted the light does not seem as bright, probably because it is only hitting max intensity for a split second. Works like advertised, good job Tom... might try the 1 watt LED out of a flashlight

Yes, very cool! I had a fender bender with my 500 Saturday when my engine quit at about 40 feet up. It's painted and almost dry. Parts will be here Friday and I hope to have all of the electronic stuff mounted up an functional by Sunday. I'm excited!

Hello; Heliproz?... I need to order more parts.

Tom; I have my mini-beacon hooked up to one of my lights and it's awesome! with all of the features, I think you have a hit. I'll post pics/vid when I'm all done next week. Thanks

Awesome Busyflyin! Hope that "fender bender" didn't cost you too much... I need your $$
Did you try that 1 watt Luxeon yet? (probably not the easiest to mount...eh?) I have also seen some cool "inverted cone" LEDs.

Last year I bought some of these from a fella on Ebay (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZquickarelectronics), they were the 5mm models ... cool but I was really not all too impressed. They sort of spread the LED light in a 360 degree pattern but the main focus (top of LED) was really diminished. Maybe something you might want to mess around with. One type of LED I really like is one that has a difussed lens. I acquired a few samples from this Chinese company (3mm type) and Wow! What a nice flash from such a small LED. I inquired about larger (5mm or 8mm) models but I have not heard back. The diffused LEDs shown below are 10mm but the mcd rating is only 5000 (on Ebay).

Can't wait for the pics/videos!

Tom;

The luxeon is mounted in the landing light socket and I played around with it. I hoped that it would be a tad brighter but certainly brighter than the 5mm lights we are using now. Parts will be here tonight - $161 or about 4.6 mini-flashes but that's how it goes. There was a little damage to the fiberglass but it's repaired. A little scarred but it's the best I could do. I just got out of a meeting and couldn't help thinking about my lights while the others were talking! Good thing the boss can't read my mind! Hey, those reverse cone lights might be the ticket for the beacons.

So are the mini beacon and Mini Flash instock? Can't tell from the website. I'd like to order both. Tom please let me know. I've been reading all these posts and Toms website now for over 2 hrs and my head hurts!!!

With the mini flash can I leave the Red/green nav ligts on solid or do they have to flash?? Do you need a resistor on each of the LED's? Where would you put them right up by the led? Any one have a picture of this?

Also I don't want to use power from the reciever I'd like for the lights to have there own power source. What's the best way to do this? What size battery would you guys recomend? Can I use a switch on my radio to control the Mini flash and mini beacon?

I bought a complete led light set from RAM lights and a strobe (led) light kit from them also. Can I use the Mini flash with the RAM kit? I wish I knew this was out because I wouldn't have bought the RAM kit. Not that the Ram kit is bad I just would have liked to have built a custom setup for my own needs. PS: Both of my RAM light kits are powered by regular 9V batteries.

Mike,
welcome

Don't get overwelmed. It is really easy once you get going. First you can also purchase individual LEDs from Tom also. They come with a resistor. All you do is solder the resistor on the positve wire on the LED then the wire to the connector.
Yes you can program your lights to do almost anything including steady on. Download the miniflash programming software and mess around with it. You will learn real fast.

Hi Mike,
Yes! I do have a few Mini-Flashes and Mini-Beacons instock! (1st come, 1st served).
http://www.laureanno.com/shop/index.php?cPath=21_24

Make sure you download the software and try it out first... some people have had issues getting it working on their computer... I'm still working this issue.
http://www.laureanno.com/RC/Minifla...r-Installer.exe

The MiniFlash, as designed, uses the power from your receiver to power not only the controller circuit, but also the LEDs. It is though possible to power your LEDs from a seperate source but this requires a slight modification to the controller/circuit. I can pre-wire it for you this way it yould like. Also, depending on what LEDs you plan to use, and also what power source you plan to use, you will need to use an appropriate resistor inline with most LEDs (the LEDs I sell include a series resistor, but designed for a 5V source). I can help here too if needed. Feel free to PM me or feel free to discuss it here too.

Tom can I power it using a regular 4.8 reciever pack? You can convert the mini flash for me? That would be great. Can you do the same with the mini beacon? I would like to run that off the same battery. What would I need to do to be able to shut the lights off and on throught the radio?

I've already downloaded the software!

HI Mike,
Exactly which lights do you want to control (on/off)?
The Mini-Flash will allow you to set up 4 seperate LED channels, and you can program any of the 4 channels to flash almost any imagineable pattern/rate, including controlling of either of the 4 channels via your R/C gear. Powering the Mini-Flash and/or Mini-Beacon from a 4.8v source is easy. But, you would still need to plug the Mini-Flash into your receiver for the servo (control) signal. The only two wire that need to connect to your receiver would be ground (black) and servo signal (white). Power (4.8v battery) would then connect to black and red wires on teh Mini-Flash. The Beacon can either be controlled via a Mini-Flash channel or you can use another receiver channel (seperate switch) to turn the beacon on or off.

I could easily wire up either to your needs.
Oh... and the resistors I supply with each LED would also be good if using a 4.8v source (such as a 4 cell receiver battery)

Hope this helps...

Tom

Ok I see. That sounds perfect. I'd like the beacon to be on a seperate channel on the reciever so I can turn the beacon off and on. Ok so you will pre wire the Mini flash and mini beacon? Do I leave a note in the checkout on your website?

Tom - I have ordered one Mini-Flash, One Mini-Beacon and downloaded the software you referenced. When I attempt to run the software I get the error message "System Error &H8007007E(-2147024770). The specified module could not be found."
Is this because I do not have your systems connected to my PC yet?

Sorry for the basic level question, but I did want to be sure that the software problem you mentioned didn't manifest itself in this fashion.

Thanks

Cheers - Boyd

Tom I want to do the checkout but I need to know if there is a charge for wireing them both up for a seperate power source. Thanks Mike
