hey guys,im geting ready to fly my trex nitro with 770 3D and the matching 8900G servo,i've read the instructions so i tryed to set it up as recommended set up as recommended for the trex nitro,

ATV at 150 Left and Right
Gain at 62
Dual Rates at 85%
and positive Expo at 50%

i have a Futaba 12Z and i've noticed that the ATV can go

my limits are adjusted to 150 but this radio does go up to 155,im thinking that when they mention the limit up to 150 they are saying to go to the highest limit on the radio since the JR only goes as far as 150 and no further as the 12Z does, now the travel adjust on my 12Z goes up to 140 and im also thinking it should be set up to the max

anyone have a 12Z and programed the 770 3D gyro?i might need some help
anyway here's a picture of the actual screen on my 12Z,either i find some one that has already programed this gyro on the 12Z or i guess im going to have to figure things out at the field
Thanks in advance guys

Nappy, set expo to 50% in all modes, and then adjust it up (or down) to suit. 50% expo with this setup is = to 10% expo accordingf to the directions.

Switch 26,
You will want to set it to the highest possible setting to work the best. If it goes up to 155 set it to +155-155 and then the dual rate will change according ly, so instead of a starting point of 85% you might go up a little to 87% to keep the numbers in synch
Your gain will change slightly as well/ up but one or two % I think
so 63, 64 hh and rate will be about 28%

Likewise if the atv only goes up to 140 you would drop the dual rate number to (1/2) the diff or move dual rate on that tx from 85% to 80%.
Gain will change here as well down by 2 or 3% s
o 59% or 60% Rate mode will drop to 19% or 20%

Switch its pretty critical that the servo arm is 11 mm, when your maxing out the resolution.

Last step is make sure you dont peg the servo. I adjust the travel pot on the gyro by switching to rate mode and popping off the control rod at the rear of the frame. Then give full right and see if the ball can snap on, vice versa for the other side. I actually set mine up to there is more travel available on the tail rotor than the servo arm pushes or pulls to make sure it doesnt jam, (just slightly less but an obviously visible amount less.

Hey Simmer, is it best to setup the Gain in Gyro mode or is it the same to set it up in the Gear?? is it just a number change or is it something else??

You know Mike I set mine up in Gyro mode bacuse the manual shows this and doesnt show what it would be on the gear channel. Couple this with the fact that my JR radio has a gyro menu made for this setup I decided to go that way. I figure you may as well use the features they give you as opposed to doing it the old way (gear channel) and I didnt have to figure out the gain for gear as the Gyro number fit in the gyro menu just as the manual points out. I think it was worth the switch (after all these years of setting up on the gear channel I like gyro menu better

Use the gyro menu for the gyro,it allows to set it to auto and use different setting fo the different flight modes. You can use a little higer gain in normal mode if the headspeed is not as high as Idle 1&2,i use a little more gain in throttle hold mode because there is less headspeed and TR speed in that mode.Dual rates is just a percentage of the ATV adjustment, set the ATV to max and set dual rates for the desied piro rate.If you use 80% dual rates, that is 80% of the amount you have in the ATV's.Unless you want different piro rates for the differnt flight modes you dont need to use dual rates, the outcome will be the same whether you use dual rates or no dual rates.

Mike27...

Keep in mind the gyro sense gain will be higher then using the gear channel atv. There are topics about the calculations.
I find using the gyro menu (Jr and dx7. Futaba not sure) the gain for heading hold somewhere around 70ish (depending on gyro) and using the gear atv around 55-58ish for starting points.

I think the auto mode ties the gyro gain to the flight mode.
I turned my auto off /INH

The difference between gear and gyro is the gain. You still need to set the ATV to 150 and the dual rates to 85% expo to 50% as starting points.

Yea Mine acted real squirrely when I started out with it, but I had severl things not set per the manual. It flet as if there was no gyro a little left and it wanted to spin left, a little right and it wanted to spin right. Brought back memories of flying without a gyro. Did not like that at all

One guys explained to me why the numbers are as they appear in the manual
for gyro menu:
"Yes, look at this as a dual 0-50 scale.
0-50 (rate mode) with 0 being high gain
and 51-100 (HH) mode with 100 being high gain
setup for rate would be 12%(gain) minus 50%(zero point),
or 38% for rate, 62% for HH"

on gear channel:
then its -12 rate mode and +12 HH to have the same numbers
provided you set atv to 150 w 85% dual rate and 50% expo.
These are starting points!
