Vario Sky Fox - Benzin - Evolution - Xtreme > CCPM for Benzine 47

Gentlemen,

It looks to me from reading posts on this group that Vario has a 3-120 swashplate available for the Benzine mechanics. I have the 4-90 swashplate.

I use JR radios and have both a 10X and an 8103. As we all know the 10X does not support the 3-120 CCPM; but, since I have the 8103 too the 4-90 isn't a problem from the radio standpoint.

I have an X-Cell fury which is 3-120 CCPM so I have some experience there. I looks like you gain some redundancy by using 4-90 but at the cost of a more difficult set-up.

Any recommendations as to staying with the 4-120 swashplate or should I change to the 3-120?

Your comments and suggestions are welcomed!

My 10X supports 3 servo 120 CCPM. Why doesn't yours?

Sorry, that was a typo. I of course meant to say that the 10X supports
3-120 CCPM but not 4-90!

Cessna,
You can do 90 degree CCPM on the 10X, I have it on my Vario Bell 47 and on my Jetcopter SX. You just need to use the mixes. Search for it on this forum, I laid out my complete programming for some others.

Thanks Dan. I have it.

The radio is under control either way. My question was what is recommended....stay with the 4-90 CCPM or is the 3-120 the better way to go?

Thanks,

I personally have been flying all my Vario stuff on 3-120 for years. Even though people talk about the redundency of the four servo layout, unless one of the servos just goes dead, and the arm still moves, you are not saving the heli. Most servo failures result in the arm locking in one position or another, and that means crash. Save the money on the servo. It is also less critical to setup, than the 4.

steve:

i have one item that may help you make your choice. on the 8103, the 4 servo ccpm uses aux 3 for the "front" servo. the gv-1 uses aux 3 for mode switching. this means you set up the gv-1 and that is where it stays.

when i originally built my benzin in january, i had no intention of doing any loops or rolls. now that i am doing aerobatics with my "little" helicopters, i would like to do it with my benzin. whether the one rotor speed is an issue will have to be determined. however, it is an issue that may, or may not, be important to you.

i will be putting only three servos in my new benzin when it shows up; hopefully next week! if it works for vario, it should work for me.

good luck.

nels

just do it!

Looking at the air star International site it says that to use the swash plate for 3-120 configuration that longer ball-end bolts need to be used. Can anyone tell me the correct length needed for the Bell 47 application?

Thanks for the help!
