One of forums I frequent is Anandtech.com. The forum is absolutely huge with probably around 50+ mods. One of the nice things they do there is post a reason for closing a thread in the original post. It's always at the bottom of the OP in bold print for everybody to see. The big advantage here is that everybody sees what not to do. Simple and effective.

And by the way, while the spell check is a welcome addition, it seems to be the least accurate or helpful of many that I've seen around other sites. It often can't figure out an easy word. <---such as wasy...or easy. Not that I have trouble spelling easy..it's just if the tool is there, I expect it to work.

edit: Looks like I was mistaken on the spell check. Looks like it'f Firefox which really surprises me. I thought they would have gotten it better than this.

I think the spell check is a google feature, so the RR guy's can't fix that one for ya!

I'll freely admit, it may just be my imagination, but I swear it's less accurate than other sites I go to. I'll see if I can't come up with a few A-B comparisons.

Well if you're using the Google Toolbar as suggested in the section where you write your post, then it's google not RR.

Can't be any other way? Are you using the Google Toolbar for your spell check or do you know of a built-in RR Spell checker (which I'm unable to locate)?

I never install toolbars. My browser real estate is at a premium. I'm starting to think if it's built into Firefox or Ubuntu. Never really gave it any thought.

Firefox 3 has an automatic spell check built in, RR doesn't have a spell check.

No more moderators.
If you have a problem, hit Attn:rr
Mark is always good about correcting problems.

Mark's rules are all pretty much right HERE.

Thats all right there in the member policy, which you agree to when signing up at Run Ryder.
As long as you or someone else doesnt screw that up for everybody else, Threads don't get closed. I've been here long enough to figure that one out.
Threads get closed when something turns into a bashing of other users.

Like I said, Mark does a fine job of moderating this board by himself.
No change.

Thats why I'm here, is because this board is NOT over moderated.
If you change it, I'm leaving.

Thanks for the completely irrelevant info. I wasn't asking for more moderators. I only wanted to make a suggestion on moderation style. Yeah, yeah...we've all read the rules. Still, threads sometimes get closed without and obvious reason... i.e. gray area or just because Mark is in a bad mood...who knows. As I pointed out..a small explanation in the OP by the mod clears ALL question as to what rule was broken or what set Mark off that time.

The last thing I would ever ask for is more moderation. I'm already hanging onto this place by a thread.

I guess my real point is that the moderation seems be done completly out of public eye. Mark never makes public explanations for his actions. Granted..his site, he can run it as he pleases but an open public moderation goes over much smoother and in the helps everybody know the do's and don't.

and I just can't help thinking there are some other secret mods employed by mark. I've seen mod action at some very interesting hours. Just can't see Mark waking up to a troll alarm at 4am to go ban a user.

Open and public moderation just works better...plain and simple. I've been on many forums for many years. I think I've seen enough failure and success to make that judgment.

I think we could use the option to remove unwanted troll posts in the classified section. I have seen too many ads turned in to bitch sections and it would be nice to be able to remove the unwanted posts to your ads, they have it on rcgroups and it works.

Personally,

I think we should get rid of spell check altogether
I don't use it and yes I do make mistakes (mostly typos), but
sometimes it's fun to figure out if our educational system failed somebody, or if they've had too many beverages while typing
Usually my downfall. Though it invites the spelling Nazis, it can be entertaining. Especially the foreigners!!!!

Oh I agree there.

Was just being a smart a$$ w/ my morning coffee.
BTW - I think we should make DOOD the official moderator so he can kick in a little Muzak now and then.

moderators?

cant anyone monitor themself anymore?

everyone in here knows exactly what they are typing...puns or not.

spell check?
chances are if someone was able to correct it, it's because it was understood to begin with and they are just being...well...themself.

true...but if the person doing the search doesnt know how to spell it either...then what?
