Has anyone use car motors for the ECO8. I find the ones from ikaras are $$$$ for anything decent. I dont want at this time to use brushless. Happy airways to you

If you can get hold of a 19T double or triple they work well, normally from electric flight specialist as they are low power for the latest car guys who seem to run 10-12Turn motors.
I think the original ecomony Eco 8 motor was a a special thick wire 27T single I have never found one to get near it for duration but a 19T double runs nice RPM for 6-7 1/2 mins on an 8 cell 2400 cell pack
Fit a large buggy heat sink to the outside of the can & make sure all the air holes on the can are not covered with stickers

I've been using the Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem [reverse rotation] for several years now in my Eco 8. I'm using a 12 tooth pinion and 8 cell battery packs, for a duration of around seven and a half minutes. I have replaced the bushings in the motor with bearings [1/8 x 3/8 duratrax car bearings] which will give you better motor runs. This motor is not a powerhouse on this setup, but the heli does fly nice with it. The motor is available at Tower Hobbies for around $20, and the bearings are another $6. Some guys are running up to 10 cells with this motor, which gives you more power, but is borderline on what the motor can handle. If you are looking for lots of power, you may have to go brushless, but for general flying this motor seems fine.

The atomic force is also an excellent brushed motor and they are only $20 at tower. They use the heavier duty 5x5 brushes and have bearings. I was getting great flight time and performance out of my Corona with one. People on ezone swear by them.

I've used both the Mag Mayhem Reverse and the Atomic Force in my Ecos... the MMR on 10 cells with a 12t pinion... I thought it worked ok, nothing special. Adding BB's would have helped.

The Atomic Force I've used on 8 cells with both a 10t and 11t pinion... both worked well, I liked it better than the MMR.

Car motors for ECO 8

I took one winding out of the Ikaras sport motor and turned the timing up and got 8.5 seconds of unbelievable performance on just 8 cells. Outside temp is 43 degrees. The temp of the can was 55 degrees and the brush area was 98 degrees. The motor is a lot cooler than it was before. I was just doing hovering since this uses a lot of power. There is a very good answer for this., but for right now the machine has never flown THIS GOOD........... Time to beat some air molecules
