| Well i have been trying to get to grips with this machine for nearly a year now,
Apart from the LHr which i find really hard, plus my nervousness towards turbines i haven't had much success..
Well recently the tail has been kicking, i am flying it in HH in Idle up 1 and 2, in non idle up the tail is set to normal.
Well i started the turbine up in the garden this afternoon and again notice the usual tail vibration,(which normally disappears once the hover is reached, just every now and again the tail will kick,) i went into idle up ( flight RPM) and was gonna just demo a hover...
But i am very glad i didn't, cos after i shut down the turbine and it ran its normal cooling down process, i carried it back to my workshop and noticed the tail pitch slider was loose and flopping all over place..
on closer inspection i noticed the bell crank had cracked and the carbon had just worn away, and had come off the ball link...
i have flown for nearly 4.5 yrs now and have never had a bell crank fail causing loss of tail control...
The worrying thing is on pre flight check it was fine, it was only under stress it gave up... fortunately i was on the ground...
I am not gonna slate the vario design, but does seem that key parts do really wear out when used in conjunction with a turbine, are they under more stress with a greater output from a turbine ? or could it be that flying it in HH is over stressing the tail bell crank ?
i am using a 601 with the 9256, there is nothing wrong with the servo or gyro, this is pure mechanical fatigue, i have done nothing more than hover this, it was only last week i managed to pluck up the courage to fly it in a small hovering circuit.. i am really glad i did not do it today!
So if anyone has this conversion, i would recommend just check the bell crank, for flexing under load, better safe than sorry..
