That's good to hear. The price on those packs are very attractive but so were Align packs when they came out - enough said about those. Did you get any in-flight data that would show voltage droop under heavy load? How would you compare them to FP packs for power? Thanks in advance!

- Jon

Jon,

we got many data but didn't post them. Contact me if you need any as I cannot post on this forum. Align is also very good battery but Outrage has 50% crash replacement.

Steve,

Respectfully, I disagree regarding the quality of the Align battery. However, I bought an 8S 3700 Outrage setup last month and so far it's been great. I haven't had a chance to get out to fly much lately with the demands of work, family and home remodeling but the few flights I put of the OutrageXP have been really good so far. Pulling 2k watts in some of the more demanding maneuvers the minimum voltage was 27.9V and that was only for a split second. Over the entire flight the voltage level very consistant and head speed didn't suffer in currect spikes.

All that being said, I want to spend some time wringing it out a bit more and post a graph showing the details. I have an equivalent Flightpower 8S 3700 that I want to compare it to as well. Just a matter of finiding the time.

I flew a friends new Xtreme 50 EP last night. He is running a 6S setup, 2 x 3S 5300mA Hyperion packs, a Z50A-800 motor and RJX ESC.
This worked out quite well, not a 3D monster, but flighttimes above 7 minutes and still keeping 15% left in the packs.

For normal sports flying like loops, rolls, stallturns 360, inverted, tic/tocs and wall of death it works fine.
The packs was mounted far forward, and everything was completly cool after a flight. I was amazed how good this setup was.
The AUW of the heli ended up as 3550g (on the pic the bladecaddy is on).

Owner feels like this is a success, and it got the grunt that he needs right now (not a 3D pilot yet). Its very very silent, so silent it's almost scary. Tonight we are going to try the same heli, but on a 8S setup, with a governed HS down to 2100.

Please keep us posted as I'm looking to convert one of my X50's to electric, I was looking at the Z50 motor as well.

Had some more flight on it last night, but didn´t have the time to change it to a 8S setup. This really heli really makes people look, the design is very hot. Flies like on rails, and is as quiet as the Logo 14, which also where flying at the field. I guess the spiral cut gears makes it quiet like this.

Headspeed on 6S is a solid 1935 rpm, but doesn't feel enough.
On 8S, you will get a HS like 2580(!) but then you use your governor in the ESC to set it down to 85% = 2200 rpm, where it should be.

Ok, here´s a short video of the very first lift off.

There are plenty of things that then where tuned. Remember, this is a 6S setup, and is not setup for 3D.

Hehe, yeah it´s ok for the guy who owns it. Very good performing system, everything is cool(!) after a 7 minute flight.

Me? I´m looking at a 10S setup. Or even 12 as I have many 6S packs allready. Need for speed!
Its so nice to fly EP, clean and quiet. We have charged our packs at 2C for a year, with none or very little reduction in life or performance. This is offcourse with a good chager and balancer (always!). I am going to try a new charger that comes out in the market very soon, its a 10S charger that can handle up to 3C charging. With the new QUALITY packs, this will bring even shorter chargetimes.

Running 30% nitro in Sweden costs a fortune! A gallon of CP30% is about 55$. And the way we fly, that's gone on two days...Last month alone, 340$ was spent on fuel. And this is during spring time, where the wheater sucks... So EP is not that expensive considering.

Ok, what a diffrence. We have now flown the 8S setup, and power is much much better. The 8S and Z50-780 motor is a great combo. At 75% throttle this heli can do 3D without a problem. But it sure looks empty dosen´t it?

Tom

Thanks for the update,

Looks like the Z50-800 on 8S may be the ticket,

Thanks again,

Not sure if I understand your question completely? But, I think this might be it.

The Battery to the motor is regulated by the ESC (CC110A)which has a gov mode that we have selected to use. Our throttle curves are set at 75% flat across for idle up one which yields a 2180rpm head speed, making the heli very responsive.

X50

We have just tested the X50E at 4 min of sport flying to take reading of the esc, battery temps and battery life. Our next flight we will set the timer for 5 min and log info from it. The 4 min flight had plenty of power and felt real good. more to come.

When charging the packs, make sure you have 15% left in them. You don´t want to ruin thoose packs. So when put back 2125mA in the pack (85%)you have reached the sweat spot in time.
