Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > Off Topic, Eye Protection, "Nerd Cool' is in this year....

I've been trying to get all of my non club flying heli chums to fly with some sort of eye protection. You see none of them are into this sudo 'cool' style of eye wear available from all good mags and model shops myself included. You know what I mean, those odd shaped strangely tinted mirror jobs that are worn by just about everybody in the hobby. Well I just hate those things and I look such a prat wearing them. So I've opted for the 'nerd cool' look and am useing the new generation of non tinted safety glasses. This is the type of eyewear favoured on building sites everywhere and I have to say that it's non trying to be cool look is well.... cool.
So are they as safe as your '3D fliers' shades?
Well in the intrest of science I lined up on my firing range 3 pairs of safety glasses and 1 pair of regular 3D fliers shades. With a distrance to target of 20m and all pairs held in position I am pleased to announce that all glasses failed to shatter and would be more than able to withstand the impact of any wayward helicoper component, although not the actually helicoter itself!!
Result.... Well now I am 'Nerd Cool' and safe!!!
So how do I look in them? Well I would post a picture but all of my glasses are shot to hell, so I can't.
And all the shops are shut today which means I can't fly either. Bugger!!

But if you think Austin Powers you are getting warm, YEAH BABY!!
Chics love a nerd...

Hi Bell Bloke, You can look real cool! if you buy Qakley shooting glasses, they are shatter proof and you get interchangable lenses.
Unfortunatley they are expensive

Oh **** ! this is going to be expensive?

What about those glasses that Raymer wore in the World Series of Poker? They helped him play well, so maybe they'd help me fly well?

Or perhaps some X-Ray Gogs so you could see the workings of your heli while in-flight to avoid any mechanical failures??

Hey, now I like your thinking on the x-ray ones, and they have just the right amount of nerd styling thrown in.

An exciting new development this weekend, whilst flying in Norfolk England, my friend decided that he just didn't go in for the 'Nerd Cool' thing at all. Instead he got me to try out his new invention which is a combined eye and head protection unit fused into a very, I think you'll agree, sylish future look.
Personally I think he's on another planet!

Unfortunately the anti-mist/fog systems were malfunctioning on these particular prototypes at the time of the photocall.

Glasses

Bell bloke, I'm sorry that you don't like the look of our glasses (which don't have tinted mirror lenses, by the way - at least, not for a few more weeks...) but thanks for proving what we know, i.e. that they pass a good old fashioned impact test!

Incidentally, you can't claim to be an "ex-racing driver" and then say you don't want to look cool - can you?

Actually Bell Bloke glasses has dual purpose. The other is using it as a template for cutting his hair.

Hi Folks, Sorry for the delay in my reply on this subject but some preparation for my case was required and that needed some props and a little time.

So here goes..........

I have prepared a photo comparison test to illustrate my point.

You will see in the picture above that the glasses in the COOL catagory are, although COOL on some, not so cool on me.
Next..

In the middle picture you will notice an absence of eye protection on me, this causes a swing in the 'NERDOMETRE' towards the 'NERD' look.
Fact: It has been scientificlly proven that any application of eyewear will generally swing the wearers looks towards the COOL look.
Next...

There are some exceptions however as shown in the next photo where my simple application of the NERD type eyewear sends the NERDOMETRE off the scale!!
Notice also the effect this NERD eyewear has on my features.
True, this shot of me was taken at a differant time of day and under differant lighting but it's only the wearing of the glasses that create the final effect.
I have also noticed the effect that it has on any female that I encounter when either at work or in my daily life. As a result I have found that I cannot go anywhere with my safety glasses on and get away unscathed. As a result my girlfriend has conviscated my glasses and now only lets me wear them at home.

So John, in answer to your statement about your cool 'Model Glasses'
available from all good retailers and model magazines etc, yes they are Very Cool and what's more Very Safe. Yes they will even stop a speeding bullet from a gun!! But as far as my girlfriend is concerned, she likes me in the picture on the right much more than in the other two. This is a bit depressing for me as I now have to wear my protective glasses all the time at home now, even in bed, but never at work or down the shops.
Now John I know that THIS type hobby doesn't attract any nerds at all, (All the nerds are plank fliers ) but they should be represented and I feel that a 'Model Glasses' nerd range could be long overdue.

And finally........

In answer to your question about obtaining the Walker Skull Spheres with the Antimisting system FlynHeli, we are at the moment in discussions with 'Baush and Lomb' about a possible limited production run on these...........
