The guy at the LHS says that you shouldn't use heading hold on an electric heli, but couldn't give a good reason why. The only thing I could see is that the tail servo might chew up a little more power while flying, but I can't imagine that it would drastically lessen flight time. I did the first few flights with my Concept EP w/o HH on, but found (obviously) that it handles much better with HH on.

Any thoughts?

If you are using a BEC, i can understand them saying that as the HH would probably reduce your flight time because of the juice it uses. If you are using a seperate flight pack, it should not pose any problem

that's ridiculous. heading hold is used on electric helis all the time.

I am using the BEC. I can't really percieve a difference in flight time between with and w/o HH as far as flight time. I am using 2400 8.4v Sanyo cells and have my timer on the 9C set to 5.5 minutes and I usually have a minue or so after that of flight time even when hammering it hard.

What else couldn't the guy explain at the hobby shop?

Hello

UMMMM, well I use a JR 410 HH in my Piccolo Pro and I still get 10 mins of insaine power. I think the guy at your HS need to refresh his knowledge base on electric helis because there have been many advances in electric RC aircraft technology.

Oh and let me be the one to tell you, use a HH gyro because as you have stated, "found (obviously) that it handles much better with HH on." That is what counts. Oh and I use HH on all the helis I have ever flown, I really dont like to mess with the rate mode.
