just curious. What do you hope to gain with the nitro conversion?

As for your 14 pinion. i started to do a simulaur conversion with a .32 car engine, and i was planning to use the car clutch and pinion, witch is available from 12 to 18 tooth. my thinking was that no fan would hold the 33000 rpm of the car motor. my thinking was that the car motor put's out 3.3 hp at 33000 rpm it should propel a heli quite well.I was planning on putting an air duct throught he canopy to the engines head for cooling or maybye an eletric fan such as the new compass 90 oden uses.

Then i started doing research on curernt production simular size heli's and what i found out is it's tourque that get's the job done not hp and manufactures don't publish tourqe numbers. but tourqe is the reason that eletric motors kick the snot out of nitro motors .I also expereince a simular tourqe vs hp differene in plankers. take a .46 rated at1.75 hp takes a hundred feet to get off the ground. now take that same planker and stick a .61 rated at 1.9 hp. simular right?
well the proof is in the take off distanc e of 10 feet verses 100 feet.and the .61 added 6oz of weight to boot. It's called tourqe baby.and it's what gets the job done not hp.

suffice it to say after my research i abondoned my conversion and started flying eletric. for me it was about performance. and the nitro's can't touch the eletrics.

However if you just whant something uniqe go for it. but after watching the video on the pegausus be prepared for a noisey underpowered brick that requires a lot of collective management to keep it from bogging.

Didn't mean to go . but i wouldn't whant to see you spend alot of time on something that's not what you whant.put a 6turn scorpion motor in a 450 and ain't no nitro goeing to touch that.

I was thinking more for high acrobatic sport flying not 3D.
Yes it would be unique to have a 450 nitro or maybe even a 500 nitro.

so far from what I read I can use a car clutch with a 14t pinion

but how would I start it, is there some kind of adaptor for a start shaft or is it built in to the clutch already ?

JM2C's :)

the car motor i was goeing to use had a roto start off the back or on most mycars i would use a starter box witch contacted the flywheel direct.

uniqe is cool. for me i got started on the eletrics and i guess i'm getting lazy in my old age because all the extra bs with the nitro's got old. even now every once in awhile fly one of my nitro 50's , but it usualy only takes aflight to get my fill of nitro bs again, like tonight i went to fly and i decided to fly one of my knight 50's and so i filled it up charged the receiver batt, went to start it and the oneway starter bearing went out, and thatis a hour job atleast to fix,so i threw it in the corner and grabbed my favorite eletric and had 4 flights in the amount of time it takes to fuel up and start and tune in a nitro.gota love eletric, i just wonder what took me so long to discover them.

ok, we're talking 500 class not 450.

if you had 4 flights in an hour, u must have had 4 batteries...4x$120 (roughly), u can buy a motor and fuel for less than that. that's my whole motive to find whats out there in the 500 nitro size that is 3D capable.

i'm just not ready to make the .50 jump just yet.
