e-Align T-REX 450-500-600 > T-REX 500 Electric to Nitro conversion ?

I can hear the moaning and nashing of teeth already

I was looking at converting my 450sa a .15 size engine would work but the rotor disc size is too small for the AUW

Now I'm looking at the 500 to do the conversion since the rotor disk appears large enough for AUW of the heli.

So here's my Questions

How many Watts out does the drivetrain produce?

What is the typical AUW, RTF weight of the 500?
weight of Bat and weight of BL motor?

Has someone else done this?
any links or pics?

IF you want to save some time and alot of work why don't you buy the esmart 600, it's actually a 500-550 size heli and comes in nitro and E power... Or the 600n rex.

Tom..... No "D" flying....

Blade

I have a 500.

4 pounds

2 X 2100 batteries.

"Eats 3600 Mah in 7 minutes of sedate low headspeed flying.

I think the motor is 1600?

I run the 11 tooth pinion.

Trex 500

Most folks are using 6x2500 cells or thereabouts. Presuming that Krause and Szabo are putting ~80% back in and are getting 4 minutes/flight, works out to about 650 watts if my math is correct. I'm thinking a .21 size car motor is likely going to match up pretty well. Getting one mounted with a proper muffler and gearing AND runs smoothly and reliably is the trick. Good luck. steve.

The Batteries alone weigh more then the .21 nitro by about 200 grams

The BL Motor and ESC weigh more then the fuel

The problem I'm now having is getting a clutch with a ~14T pinion

anyone ??

volts X amps = watts

I hit over 1000watts on my eloger stock motor and 13T pinion on the 500

CRASH! GLUE! REPEAT!

Just go buy one – no need to convert http://www.pegasushelisusa.com/stor...elicopters.html

There is also a nice write-up in the latest issue of RC Heli Magazine. Their conclusion was that it’s more expensive, and has less performance than an EP version but it was a fun novelty item.

FWIW -- the nitro conversion of the 450 that was done about three years ago went nowhere, in spite of the thread being resurrected on a weekly basis. The fellow was selling conversion parts on Ebay for awhile. His videos showed a brick that flew like crap.

It was one of those ideas that sounded good, but when put into practice, sucked.

I think you will end up with a somewhat sluggish sport flyer. If thats what you want then go for it. You can probably run a 4S high CAP pack and get the same result and similar flight times.

I think there is a reason why you dont see many nitros below 30 size, at least not any that have caught on.

I want to see this man the Trex 500 would be so sweet on nitro.

Wonder if someone smart will come out with a kit?
