Hey Guys,

My tail rotor threw a blade last night (was running the T-Recks blade in the stock holder) and now I have to get a new set of t/r holders. I was curious before I place my order about just converting the tail over to Align grips anyways (saves me from sanding the roots of the blades down to fit the Esky grips). Has anybody done this out there? Do you have to change out the control linkage as well due to the balls on the Align being a different size? Ay insights would be helpfull here.

JC,

The Align holders have different ball sizes and the balls are positioned differently forcing the use of the Align slider.

The Align slider has a different diameter housing so will not fit the Esky control arm.

The Align Control arm is shorter than the esky (about 1/2 the length)

It's about here I gave up on trying to do this. Good Luck

Take a look at the last post in this thread

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t417402p1/

Looks there is kit that bolts onto the stock shaft. I was wondering how well it works. The slider (the part on the shaft) looks to be thicker than the stock piece so it might reduce the overall travel.

By the way, where'd the stock piece break?

How the shoe was thrown...

The fasterner screws (the ones that attach the grip to the hub) got loose, one gave way threw the bade a good 10 feet! Found the blade still attached to the grip with the ball end broke off. So I couldn't just reattach it.

Yes, I have. Use the entire Align Trex hub and blade grip assembly, it bolts right on. You will also need two Align rod ends to replace the Esky parts on the tail slider, the Esky parts won't fit the Align balls, but the Trex rod ends will screw right on to the Esky slider. That's all you need to do...

I learned to fly on a Trex, I learned to crash on a Blade CP...

Well here's what I ordered....

I ordered this BEFORE the replies...hope it all works...

2 sets standard ESKY tail grips (one for use if I can't get the other thing to work, 1 spare).

http://www.helidirect.com/product_i...products_id=683

1 of these (my attempt at trying to get the Align stuff to work):

1 set of these to attempt to correct the ball size :

1 set of these blades (have heard good stuff about these):

http://www.helidirect.com/product_i...roducts_id=6354

1 set of these to replace the one I broke when it threw:

I am hoping that once the balls are replaced, that I can bolt on the Align tail hub assy to the stock slider.

Worst case I put the Esky ones back on and if using the Align blades sand down the root to fit the Esky grips. I don't think this was a contributing factor to my recent mishap. I neglected to thread lock the screw on the hub so it backed off. I was practicing main rotor spinup and correcting the tail on spinup so I don't look like a loser with the tail swing thing. So I got lucky she wasn't airborne when it threw otherwise it could have been really bad.

We shall see, the order just shipped.

SUCCESS BABY!!!!

Well guys,

Installed the B400 balls on the T-recks tail unit and bolted the sucker on! Now running the "bat blade" looking 450 tail blades with the Align hub and they definately work really well!!! I'll take some pics of the setup and post on this thread. But no need to change the slider or anything. Thanks to Gregor for putting us on to those B400 balls, just put a dab of CA on the threads and screw it down and you're done.

Great news. So you are running the plastic Trex tail grips with an otherwise fully stock HBK2 tail? Good to know how to get the combo working. Just our of couriosity, why not go to the purple tail grips? I'm guessing its to reduce the blade filing.

The part I ordered was the entire hub with the grips attached. No real need to sand the roots of the blades down unless you want them a little more loose. The "bat wing blade" was just a hair thicker than the standard 450 blade, so I sanded the root a little. But, if I put the standard 450 blade in no sanding is neccesary. One wierd thing that I couldn't figure out was I had to reverse a servo and the gyro (maybe I had them all screwed up from the get go). In any case, when you move the tail she move (nose wise) where you move the stick to. So I am definately flying the nose and not the tail. She has a little higher pitch whine to the tail now but the tail sure seems to hold.

If you had to reverse the servo, you may have switched from leading edge control to trialing edge control when you installed the new grips. The stock configuration uses leading edge control, where the control links attach on the leading edge side of the blade.

Will it be problematic later? Would hate to tear it up.

Just looked at mine..

I have them correct. I must have had them reversed before. I took a couple of pics for you guy's amusement:

Here's how it looks:

Here's a closeup of how the Blade 400 balls attached to the Align hub assy:

The nice thing about the Align part number I ordered it was complete with grips, bearings, and screws. Made this mod a really easy one.
