Oldfart have you tryed castle speed controllers ? for an extra 30 to 40 bucks you get infinate adjustability. plus 200 more headspeed. you can abuse the you khow what out of them and they just laugh at you. like is that all you got? I like century products don't get me wrong, i have 10 fullsize century's but there speed controllers are definitly not the best. so what i'm saying is for 30 to 40 bucks extra you can make your bird perform alot better with no worries of frying a speed control.

Oldfart, I agree that lipos are still king in capacity per ounce, but I cannot agree with your "much heavier" statement when comparing a 6S 5000 lipo to a 9S A123 pack. According to specs, a 6S 5000 Thunderpower lipo weighs 726 grams. I'm sitting here looking at a 10S A123 pack on my scale showing 775 grams. Extrapolating from that, a 9S pack would weigh about 697 grams, so it's actually LIGHTER than a 6S 5000 TP! I'm very happy with the performance (~1300 watts) and flight time (6+ minutes) I get from my 10S A123 setup on my Swift 16 (Neu 1910/1.5Y). And I'm tickled poopless about the price of A123 (~$115 for my 10S pack) compared to the wallet-melting $300 6S TP 5000.

swift 620 600a motor and 8s lipo, can it be done?

hey RH50 oldfart knows what he's talking about, more voltage and less amps is more efficient. i'm actually plying with the idea of a 12s setup with a pair of 6s 2500 trex 500 batteries in sereis should weigh same as a 5000 mah 6s pack and run time should be close, becuse of less amp draw.plus there should in theory be more available power for 3D.motors like to be run at there max voltage. i found this out when i first got my swift on 4s it ran hot after one battery couldn't even touch the motor, the same bird same motor, allbeite abetter esc ,on 6s back to back betteries hard adusive flying and the motor is barely above ambiant temp.
