man I almost crapped my pants tonight, and I am not even slightly kidding

I am out back having a ball flying the HBK around,so with all this fresh talk about comfort zone in my head I get the brilliant idea to try a 540 stall turn, well I kind of forgot I upped the EPA on the tail a little and about 25ft in the air I give it a try.Well the tail whipped around so f'in fast it turned into a 720 and before I realized what was going on I was in a tail slide........BUT,luckily instinct took over and without even thinking I added collective and pushed the elevator forward. The heli eased up into a U about 3 ft off the ground and I kept her under control and kept on going. All ended well, but man for a second my heart stopped and i thought"OH Sh#T" because by the time the heli stopped rotating it was already starting to fall....and now I have something new to try

It's great when a mistake turns into something new to add to your bag of tricks. It's even better when you don't break anything in the process.

Well, I had a real good day at the ballpark today. Worked on extended nose-ins, tighter circles, and flying more relaxed and loose. Took off all the dual rates and just kept the 20% expo on the cyclic and 15% on the rudder. My old "crashaphobia" is still in remission, thankfully. I seem to be more comfortable each time out there. I've almost got nose-in down well enough to try it here in the trailer park. This could have been my best day yet. It is with the 'Rex, but I had some doozies with the King.

As soon as the heli budget is rebuilt, it'll be flip or loop time.

I've been using up too much real estate with video embedding, so here's the links if anyone's interested in today's flight:

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you...

First pack battery seems to die down quicker then before and motor was hotter. Didn't have time to check it. After work flew again and head speed seems slow and battery dies sooner as well, and motor was hot.

Took it home and closer look, one of the belt roller stopped working. i replaced them with BeltCP ones, Also replace the servo too..

I had a very brief flight this morning. Helidirect sent me
a box of parts over the weekend and I spent last night
repairing the crash damage from last week.

I decided to not use loctite on the bolts in the feathering
shaft since I crash and replace the feathering shaft at least
once a week.

So you already figure out the reason for my short flight. Two minutes into the flight, my HBK2 exploded in mid-air, with each
mainblade departing in opposite direction. I found the
airframe, and one blade, but couldn't find the other. I
was luck enough to hit throttle hold before the crash so
I didn't strip the brand new maingear. But to help me find
the wreck in tall grass, I ended up powering up the motor
for a split second to locate the screeching motor, that was
enough to strip half an inch of the maingear :-(

Don't skip the loctite even if you think you'll need to take it
apart in a few flights!

I've also read that the machines that cut the threads use oil and some amount gets left on the threads. The oil interferes with the locktite. Clean the oil before locktiting.

I flew 10 packs today with a squealing motor bearing. First two were outside in strong gusts. The worst I've flown in so far. I won't say I'm getting comfortable with the wind. But I am getting more capable. I don't enjoy it, but can do it.

The rest of the packs were in the garage. By the 10th flight the motor was really howling. It made me wonder if the bearings would sieze. I think I'll bench the bird until the new motor arrives.

As you know, that bad motor COULD cook your ESC.

Yup I think that happened to mfcrash. His 3900 was running bad and so it was drawing too much from his 30A ELE ESC and it finally smoked.

No flying today, in fact no flying all week.

I have decided to get off my a$$ and clean up that sh1t hole I call a basement (AKA man cave) and clean up all that helicopter crap before she does. I realise it is about time I got to fixing the things that need fixing around here instead of spending all my time fking about down there with those things.
I don't think for a minute that they won't go in the trash if I don't get to fixing the what really needs fixing (sorry I appear to be repeating myself).

I have also decided to paint the 2nd spare bedroom, which is a much better use of my time than playing with toys, despite the fact no-one has been in there for the past 4 years.

Please God, let this week be over.

Helidirect came through and I'm in the air again today. Got 8 packs in with the new motor. Wow, is that thing loud. It must be the fan. I'll give more detailed commentary after I've had more time with it.

YIPPPEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!Today I did my first circles.

Not pretty, but circles.

IMHO, if one wanted to prepare for learning circles,

It's a forward motion Toolman piro.

That's how I visualized it.
