Yup mmike, first ever flight by me anyways.

Is this not a cool photo?

I took it to find out whether the tail shaft should be stick out that far. No response on the Rex forum.

Well got done charging the battery and it only took 888mAh. That was after about 3min at 65% throttle and then about 4 more at 85%. So far everything looks great!

cant wait to hear your contrasts between mini and Rex when you get them dialed in. I assume you already liked the mini build better.

Yup the Mini is definitely the winner on ease of building, maintenance and setup. It is also the winner on electrics placing and wire running. But so far the Rex is flying as good or better. Now remember that this is a top-of-the-line Rex and the Mini is almost all stock, but the Rex is smooth and very stable. I also think the Rex is lighter by quite a bit, as least with the electronics I have in it right now anyways. I will definitely have grab the scale and weigh all three to see how they measure up that way.

Mike,
You turn nose in the same way you do with your smaller helis. It easier. Its a mind trick.

We need video proof around here.

Flyin' the Lama Clone :)

TJ: Congrats on the maiden! Glad it all went well.

I finally got away from work long enough to charge up the Lama Clone and fly it around the living room tonight. Decided to work on some real life nose in, and circuits tonight. So, for the first time, I did a series of real circuits in the living room with the CX2 (er.. I mean.. the Lama Clone). Looked pretty cool when I'd make the turn at the other end of the room. I was trying to make it a nice forward moving, "round" turn, and not just a tail pivot until I was pointing the other direction. By the end of the second battery, it was feeling pretty natural.
Then I did some piros, that were only about 3' out from me, and 2' off the floor. First one way, then other, repeat. My focus was to keep it as near to one place as possible (for me), and not gain, or lose, a bunch of altitude. That went pretty well after the first couple.

Then the ultimate challenge.. Nose in hover.
Oddly enough, when I do a circuit, and make the turn, my head transitions with it. Probably a carry over from the fixed wing days.
But to just 1/2 piro, and then hover..
Well, lets just say it needs practice. But I'm going to keep working it. I was actually able to hold it for about 1 minute. But it was pretty bouncy.. lol

Ah... felt good to be in the air, even if it was with the CX2 in the living room. I've been so wrapped up with work lately, that I haven't much been out of my office at all. I'll be glad when this project is finished. (although, I already see the next 4 projects behind this one, and they're going to be just as busy... ah well, good for the wallet I guess).

I even did a little shopping around for a new 4-in-1 for my Walkera 4#3. I'd REALLY like to get that back in the air now. It's been down long enough that I miss it more than I'm mad at it. So it's time to buy some parts and get it flying.
Maybe if it behaves, I'll get it the new alum head works, and the better motor... maybe.

Helicopters don't fly, they beat the air into submission.

Just got back home and tried to get one more flight in before the sune completely sets. So I'm buzzing around the backyard and notice something over head. Then I see it again, circling. A quick glance up and I see that its the Osprey that lives in the cell tower across the street. Seems he finally noticed there was a small flying thingy behind the house across the street, and decided to check it out.

The way he was circling I didn't want to take chances so I landed until he took off.

This isn't our Osprey just pic I found of the breed.

The bird an its home is known to the local bird watchers. I don't want to be the guy that gave a bad name to heli pilots. I'm just playing around in my backyard. That bird was probably wondering if I was a motal threat.

In the twilight hours, the HUGE led in the BEC was glowing like crazy through the canopy. The bird probably thought it was giant cyclops bee with glowing red eye.

Heaven forbid you would have killed that bird, or worse yet maimed(sp?) it with some bird watcher videoing. Then PETA would have gotten involved and next thing you know they get only 1000 signatures on a petition and then a law would have been introduced, and then helis would be outlawed. Because as you all know what is good for the few makes it law for the many in this country.

ooohhh, that sounded too much like a rant.

Glad you didnt hit the bird or the bird hit you greggor
