no doubt.....as much a MAJOR PITA the BLADE was...it got me started, taught me set up and repair, patience, and got me HOOKED.....I am thankful for it...but glad I moved on.....I know I've said this a million times...but the new guys starting with a HBK...you dont realize how much better off you are......the HBK is TOUGH compared to a BLADE...the HBK takes landings that would mangle a CP,and comes back for more........man if this wind doesn't quit soon I'm gonna go nuts...tried to fly today...no fun at all...all I was doing was fighting....come on spring......I'm out for now....going down to the casino to play some roulette and blackjack....I need a new gyro.....see you all later

Hey everyone flew outside again today;bad idea, way to windy heli went up then hard left "save" then went hard right "no save".Good news tho no real damage seems I did not have my brushless motor tight enough, moved but did not nuke my gears. BTW keep up the practice SUMMER is coming...

I flew again today too, this time I flew my new Sikorsky S-76 on my 450 king2 Hybrid chassis. Flew pretty good. Two crashes had yesterday I thought I would need to order parts but found out i had plenty of parts on hand. You know its bad when you dont know what you have or do have.

Way too windy to try flying here today, usually I can fly the Raptor 30 in winds up to 20 mph, it's a bit of a battle at times, but workable. Today was gusts of well over 25, probably more like 30 - 35, not worth the constant fight to keep it in control. Wouldn't think of trying to fly anthing smaller in those winds.

Not that it matters much right now, I've been down with a flu-like virus for most of the week, couldn't really fly even if the weather was cooperating. I've got the next two weeks off from work, should be able to get at least a few days in at the field, I hope

I did repair the tail servo on the HBK2 and spool it up in the basement for a test hover, it's ready to go back on the flight line

I learned to fly on a Trex, I learned to crash on a Blade CP...

Well that depends. It is still Friday here in NM so yes, I got 1.2 flights in today. Are you saying that you have flown your heli in the last hour and 10 minutes? Cause my guess is that it is 1:13am where you are and I bet you haven't flown yet TODAY

Flew 2 packs with windy.

first with HBK2 and crashed. (lost orientation during a circle)

Damage: Main blades shattered, feathering shaft and main gear. All servos survived.

Second pack with belt cp. very windy. quit for the day with this wind.

now its time to rebuild the hbk2 until dinner time. i have 2 hours => i don't have wooden spare main blades so i will try those extreme plastic blades while not ordering more spare parts for now.

well

the Rappy is nitro. I cant charge the batteries fast enough to keep me happy so i got the dirty machine. It also helps out on windy days.

I'm using a 4 story building as a wind barrier.

Anyone else doing this?

(Dr Phil voice please)

How's that working for you?

Im probably too cautious, but never damaged head parts other than blades and spindles and one flybar. Ive only had two pilot error crash on the king. One I hit dining room chair, Two I tried a nosein takeoff indoors. Both were just blades and spindles. The others were equipment failures which taught me a lesson in heli maintenance. One I didnt charge my radio and it shut off heli kept on flying in my dining room till it hit the wall and fell over stripped main gear and of course blades flybar and spindle. The last one was also an indoor flight trimming out the heli after I built a new battery tray Found my servos were worn don't know why they were from my BCPP that spent more time in the dirt than in the sky. They had no center and skipped a few teeth the swash was tilted and wouldn't come back. I just gave up on it shut it down and let it go into the floor hardwood floor+HBK2=jaghobbies.

So in conclusion prevent crashes by flying in areas of good size always check your equipment for possible failures and take some extra altitude with you when you fly. They cant crash if they are in the air.

I tried flying next to the building I work at but the thermals kill me. It is 3 stories and I was on the shady side but it was a slightly windy day and the heli was rising WAY too quickly for my lame flying ability. That was the day I had the boom strike.

I have had 3 crashes and 2 accidental spin-up breakages. I haven't had to replace a flybar yet but I have replaced other head parts.

1 flybar center holder
1 paddle control arm
3 loop links
1 swash-mixer link (long one)
2 washout bases
3 spindles
4 sets of blades

Not bad for 24 batteries run through the king.

Im between houses all around getting ready to go burn a pack now but I think it may be worse than flying in the open cause the wind swirls and is very unpredictable.

Wow, just went through 2 packs in the wind, what a way to light up the nerves. Had to run the head speed way high just to keep the tail under control but boy it gets twitchy! Fun though and no damage this time.
