Yeah like Burly found out, posting up challenges is kind of like beating your head against the wall ... it doesn't really benefit you.

I didn't fly this morning because it is freaking windy out. Maybe I will get a few packs in this afternoon.

As a odd item to post up, here is a photo of an elk that we saw grazing on the side of the road about an hour from where I live. Odd to see a big bull like that just grazing away with people parked all over taking photos. It was actually one of two. There was another about 50 feet away and he too was just grazing away without a care in the world.

I am finally getting a little time to practice ran through 2 packs doin toolman piros. Still a little scared doin nosein in front of me on the sidewalk (confined space). both sidein takeoffs are almost mastered dreading going fore nosein takeoffs.

Oh the first pack I landed 4 times swatting bugs. Second pack I tried a old wives tale and guess what? Worked freakin excellent!

Use vanilla for a cologne gnats and mosquitos hate it go figure!

I was totally amazed so simple works so good am I the last one to hear about this?

I managed to get 3 packs in before the bugs started driving me nuts. I'm finally starting to get comfortable with nose in takeoffs, and landings. I forced myself to hover a whole pack nose in, then did a pack doing take offs and landing nose in. The last pack I let her loose doing half loops, and figure eights in the empty lot next to my house. All in all a good half hour in the air.

I ought to spend more time nose in hovering a whole pack. I have no problem doing it. Im just not comfortable with it.

Who would of thought you'd have to practice this stuff?

Yeah Griff, It feels good to just stretch her legs once in a while huh.

I did about the same, spent 2 packs side in and a little nose hovering. And the spent the last pack working on some bank "s" turns. Trying to go completely sideways at 90 degrees on the banks.

Really started to make the butt pucker and the adreneline flow!!!
At one point I got closer to the ground than I wanted too. Almost smoked it. It would have been nasty flying about 30mph sideways into concrete.

While I was flying one circuit a couple of birds flew pretty close and I thought of Fender so I pulled up and away, just in case there is a conspiracy theory among birds.

After 9 months in the garage and backyard, today I finally went to the big field for the first time. Fed up with the constant gusts at home, I went in search of a more sheltered flying field. I couldn't find any, and the local ball fields were windy as well. But since I had come that far, heli and gear all packed, I had to try it.

First thing I discovered was what real wind feels like. In the back yard, I'm getting mostly turbulance. The heli will bob up or down. But that's about it. But out here, the wind grabs the heli and takes it up-up and away. I was applying more negative collective than I ever had just to keep the heli from being pulled away like a kite. The fast wind seemed to about 30 feet up. Once I got below that, the heli dropped like a rock. Kind like when you are in a tug-o-war and the other person lets go. The heli broke through to the calmer air while I still had negative colletive going. Luckly there were only close calls, no damage.

Maybe it was all the wind, or perhaps it was the tripple hazelnut latte, or maybe it was because I was flying 3 times higher and three times farther than I ever had before, but I never really felt comfortable. The wind picked up half way through the third pack. I waited for a calm, very brief moment and landed. I waited for a little while but the wind only got stronger, so I called it a day.

Gregor

All kidding aside, where I fly, the wind is a constant.

The smallest heli I can fly outside on a regular basis is a 450.

When friends and family come over with a BCCP or HBK2, they spend their flying time struggling with the wind. No fun.

When you get a 450, I think it will increase your enjoyment and increase your "fly" days.

Ya know Mike, that very thought crossed my mind and galvanized my resolve to get a 450 as soon as I am able. With the HBK2, I can fly in the wind, but it's just not alot of fun.

Great minds think alike.

Possibly as an interium plan, you might consider a 2100 mah battery if you don't have one already.

I think it would help to a degree.

It would be an investment that would be useful when you do get your 450 as well.

I flew last night.

Still excited about nose in.

I'm flying the 500 nose in as well, nose in is easier than the smaller heli, but scarier too as I can't afford to crash that one.

Once again I am waiting for that magical Brown van to come down my street, stop in front of my house, and bring me my Mini Titan!!

The wife and kids are at her mom and dads swimming until 3 or 4!
I might actually be able to slip this one in without her knowing! he he he.

The worst part is over, now i just have to wait for the crown to be made. My dentist is real good, hardly any discomfort at all. Just have block out the sound of that D@$% drill.

Well, back to staring out the window and waiting so very impatiently.

Someday you will be able to log in and see where the truck is in its route and know exactly when it will arrive. I think I am going to write UPS and demand that. They should not put people through this type of anxiety!!!

TripleB

ohh, and just so we stay on topic. I am just doing Fenders "T"'s in the garage because it a little too windy out right now.

Greg have you tried more headspeed? 85% flat throttle is scary at first but Its all I use well 95 at both ends 85 at center. Except for the twitch of my sloppy king it is very stable in winds to 15mph and bearable at 20mph.

As for the T's i have inadvertently been doing them for a while now and didnt know it. I fly down my sidewalk And T's are all there is room for its getting to the big field and using all that space thats intimidating. With a good HH gyro sideways flight is a blast.

I'm currently running the 10t with 85% at mid stick in normal mode, so the throttle is already up. I need to start playing with idle-up again and see how 95% feels, thanks for reminding me.

The Align blades help alot in the wind. But they are heavy and put more of strain on the power system. The Outrage packs can take it but the smaller FMA packs are getting pretty warm as is. Now that the ambient temps are up, so is the motor temp (110-120f) I'm hesitant to bump up to 11t unless I replace the motor and retire the FMA packs. The Align blades gave me back alot of the feel I lost when I went from the 11t to the 10t. So I'm relunctant to go back to the 11t.

I think my biggest problem is transitioning from the garage where there is no wind and I'm use to having the heli do everything I ask it to and nothing more. The wind is a new element that will take time to adjust to.
