tryan02: My daughter flies model rockets I just welded her up a radio controlled steel launchpad from a 2ch donor heli 45MHZ. Now we gotta go to town 25mi. away to get some engines.

But time with my daughter is even more enjoyable than helis.

Why not combine the hobbies.....

Whoever this is did it with a "C" engine - I'm amazed its worked - try it with a "D"...

Somebody PLEASE loan Tryan a nitro so he'll stop whining...

Ok I am loving the gym! Ran all 6 packs through the king. I spent more of the time on nose-in and other new stuff. I did my first nose-in piros in both directions. I tell you, nose-in is becoming almost as easy as tail-in for simple hovering. My only weakness is flying it higher and I will work on that. All the stuff I do right now is like 6-12in off the floor. I have done some higher stuff but the low height and TG allow me more freedom to try new things. If things get all crazy I just whack th.hold and let the heli slide to a stop. Lately I have been saving it more but once in a while I feel a dumb thumb coming on and I will just kill power and start over. That is better than crashing.

I tried something I haven't seen yet. I did a toolman piro (holding heli in hover while slowly moving through all the orientations) but instead of having the heli move, I left the heli in one direction and walked around it myself. This allows the heli to stay in a nice stable hover and just lets me focus on the orientations. I did 3 "TJ piros" walking clockwise and 1 walking counter clockwise. I have no idea why but anytime the heli is physically on my left side, I have all kinds of trouble keeping is stable. That just tells me I need more practice with the heli all around me.

Oh and I did my first circles. They were big, rough and slow but I did make it around. I tried to follow the center 12' circle in the gym but as I transitioned from right side-in to nose-in, it got a little loose and drifted right a ways. I brought it back and continued around. Then I did 2 big ovals all the way around the gym. I also lost it once on each oval but again I just brought it back in line and continued. I can see myself doing those easily by the end of the week

Thanks man but I have a long, long way to go before I can compete with you toolman! I have to tell you that I am enjoying this so much right now. Just the ability to do something other than tail-in hovering is a blast! I can't wait to get there tomorrow and fly more circles!

I just hope others use this technique. You can save tons of money from not crashing and really advance your skills quickly. And its so much fun.

Finally got the king put back together tonight. I have to say this is the best I have set it up yet. I guess all those crashes help you learn about the ins and outs of this alot faster. Anyway got 3 batts in tonight before dark just trying to hover tail in and did pretty good. It's been at least 3 weeks since my last flight and had to get it done tonight. Could'nt stand coming on here and seeing everyone flyin but me. Today was a big success for me in that I got it back in one piece. That has only happened one time but that was because I was just hopping around. You guys should have seen the smile on my face.
Today was a good day

Congrats on the crashless hops dont give up your on your way. cant wait to see that first hover vid. Those are much better than any 3D vid.

My flights usually end up with alot of cursing in the end. Would probably make for some good video, But it could also end with a safe landing. Thanks for the help Tryan02
I think this thing is gonna get addictive

Good to hear your king is back in business Kevin!

I flew my regular 6 packs in the gym today. I spent a lot of time in all orientations. Many times I was just throwing the heli around and the catching it in some odd orientation. It was good!

I also did some nose-in at eye level. I tell you that still gets my heart racing! Everything else I can handle without a second thought but that higher nose-in gives my nerves a workout.

maybe sometime I will take some video of my awesome new skills

Did I fly today HMMMMM. Oh yeah nothing spectacular but I put on a one man airshow in the front yard up and down the street. 7 Kids It could have not been more perfect they all snuck up behind me so I sat it down.

Quote
Then calmly explained its worse than a lawnmower blade with no cover. Interesting analogies always pop into my head under pressure scary huh?

So I sent them across the street and one house up from me and said I would fly again if they did that for me. To my surprise they did just that. But let me say I did a few 8's up and down the street a few 40ft popups and piroed the old REX till it couldnt fly no more overdischarged her to 6% UH OH. The applause and screaming was insane though, have you ever tried to fly with seven screaming kids WOW Im still freakin shakin.

Then to top it off I went to my new digs upstairs mancave and fired up the king gettin her ready for the scale body again with 292mm blades from the MX400. Need some help to work out pitch curves and Im back in business.

Oh and I found out why my tracking went to sheet this is a new one for me one of the screws that sits in the flybar holder on the hub had backed out never heard that one from anyone else.

I have been flying for a small audience for weeks now and I am getting used to it. I don't really like it but what am I gonna do? It is a public gym. Anyhow I ran my standard stuff today, no big news.

Oh and I found something cool in my parts drawer ... I bought a BB king with a cnc head and tail not long ago and I found out that it also came with a set of XTreme turnbuckles I didn't even know. They were in the bag of lots of little pieces. So I put some new ends on them and installed them on the king. Yup now I gots perfect tracking That BB king is turning out to be a damn good deal

Oh yeah and the whole 7C thing.

Just did another King test hover I mechanically took the pitch to 0 degrees at 0 stick normal mode left throttle in the same place so more pitch same throttle much smoother and downforce is as strong as the REX. I think Im on to something at least as pitch goes. Sorry Jer I may have to put some negative Expo on it its a little quick and jerky at hover. We'll see in the next day or so when I get the fuse put back on hopefully the weight helps. Hovering naked right now. getting her dialed back in with new 292mm blades.

shakey hands

Hey guys spent monday night getting the king all setup and last night took it out in the backyard for some flight time. I probably had a 15 ft sq area to fly in and if you have seen my posts you'll know that this is not enough space for me. As i am getting ready to take off I notice the neigbor and some of his buddies wathing me and I think to my self that this could be an embarassing moment waiting to happen. First flight gets off the ground like a pro and had a pretty good hover going at times. At the end of my flight everyone starts clapping and yelling do it again. So I take off on my second flight and not 30 seconds into it a kid out of nowhere locks the brakes up on his bicycle. When he stopped he had to be 5 foot from my heli as I was hovering at his eye level. I need a hell of alot more room than that to fly so I tell him to get back and land. After I landed my hands were shaking so bad I could hardly get the battery disconnected. I was flying in my backyard but I would have been responsible for anything that had happened to him. This heli is a kid magnet so i'll have to make sure my gate is closed so this doesn't happen again. Last night I showed myself that I can fly this heli and do it under pressure. I've read about people flying and kids sneaking up on them, but this was a first for me.
I'm just happy to have flown 2 nights in a row with no crashes and no injuries. That kid scared the hell out of me.
