for me, anxiety is tied to how much is at stake not difficulty. i think that's why the guys that fly 90s seem so at ease with thier 50s. so the moral of the story is, get a bigger more expensive heli, hover it around a bit and then do your regular flying on the smaller cheaper heli.

hear I go again being the minority.

My little helicopter was actually $10 more than my bigger heli.

"at stake" includes many things than actual cost of the heli. includes but not limited to danger, expensive furniture, pride(flying in front of people makes me nervous).

I wince at the $$ and the time spent in repair.

But, I enjoy the excitement.

I like to keep alot of spare parts along with a couple of spare helis just for that special occaision when you stuff it in the ground like a lawn dart.. I don't fly 3D so that doesn't happen often too me, but I'm prepared for the worst at all times. I can either grap another heli and see if I can wreck 2 in one day or rebuild it in a few hours to fly again...If you buy a few extra parts everytime you order you will always have spares to get your heli back in the air quickly...

I agree slider, I keep just about enough spare parts to build almost one complete heli and enough of the major parts for three more. My only problem has been after I crash one of the helis I fly the second one but then dont fix the first one for a couple of weeks. At least until I feel guilty looking at my bird. This past couple of days I have forced myself to fix all my helis completely AND get them dialed in before I go off flying at the park.

That reminds me, I have a hbfp, blade cp and slow stick that have been grounded for over a month It would be cheaper to buy a new rtf than to fix the hbfp, but I'll probably fix the blade and slow stick this winter.

I flew the belt in the street today. Flying that thing in plenty of wind, with blades out of track and plenty of obstacles in a very small space was quite a challenge. This thing is insanely responsive now compared to stock, maybe I'll try some more flips tomorrow to test it out. Just got to get those blades tracked. It's definately not the dampers this time, my flybar probably isn't aligned right.

Dan,
go through all of the linkages,
8 out of the 10 times I have had, and have seen this problem on here,
it has been the linkages.

Get some better servos (the Esky ones are nice for the price but go $10 more and you can get awesome ones) and it will become insanely responsive,
I came out of a maneuver perpendicular to the ground about 5 feet up,
and was still able to swish out of it
thanx to
nose in practice
hitec hs 65
and carbon blades.

It was crazy!

Slider,

spares are just freaking awesome to have on hand,

when I started this hobby I didn't have any spare cash,

and I tried fudging some parts back together

and got ripped a new @$$hole here on RR (see the thread "Ghetto Choppers",

But I learned a few things,

and I have enough spares on hand to build 2 complete helis,
and I could probably crash each one once and still fix it.

I know good advice when I ignore it ;)

11:21 am

I did my first flip!

And then another!

And then I had to land because my thumb was wiggling back and forth so hard it made my heli wag like a bad gyro.

I sat down and did some deep breathing and then went back up
and did about 10 more!

Sorry didn't have video,
I won't for a week or two,
I had to give the camera back

I tried to sustain inverted flight twice,
I managed to hold it for a few seconds,
but it's a lot harder than the sims make it seem.

I tried to roll,
but that didn't happen as quickly,
ended up having to turn and loop out of it.

But through all of it,
my practice with orientations held
and I only had two or three maneuvers that didn't come out as planned
and required bailing and saving.

I know good advice when I ignore it ;)

Nice going helirapter, try to count the seconds its inverted before you bail You will find the seconds will turn into minutes if you keep trying !

Another super afternoon flying, more loops and I did my first "real" circles (rather than 90% circle + 10% piro bail out)
I think I have reached some magical milestone, things are coming together and I am just starting to "Get It".
I am actually getting comfortable nose in "still nervous just hovering nose in) but flying nose in with any kind of forward motion is getting easier.

Still need to get a roll under my belt, my attempt at the weekend didn't work out so well.

Really starting to relax and enjoy flying now, really cool feeling.

All kidding aside, I'm "stretch practicing".

I'm easing into orientations that are just a little out if my comfort zone. But not out of my reflex response abilities.

Shiz talked about this a few weeks ago. It stuck with me.

Same here Mike. Less crashing and rebuild time. My stretch currently is nose-in half circles. That's been keeping me busy lately.

My circles didn't stop sucking until I nailed down nose in,

smooth enough to take off and land.

I just got back from todays second flight

more inverted time!

Held it for a full 10 seconds,

and even did a point to point flight inverted (not an accident I had it inverted and decided to fly between 2 trees).

Don't know why I'd be challenging myself
I lost one of my allen wrenches,
so if I crash
I'm gonna have to go to Wal-Mart before I can repair

But I just can't believe it,
I wish I had video

Another thing that helped with circles,
After I noticed I did better turning certain directions from specific sides
e.g. coming at me on my left, and turning left so the heli crosses in front of me
I would go from a nose in hover on the left and peel off left,
and bring it back to the same spot,
hover,
and then peel off right.

Same thing for the right side.

After that I didn't get nervous and crash (when completing a circle) at the point where the heli crosses from my left to right side.

I know good advice when I ignore it ;)

Congrats on the inverted HR. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow I'm learning inverted backwards flight on the sim so I guess it's about time for me to try an inverted hover in rl
