Just more sim time.
Still working on those FF Right Turns.
My lefts are a thing of beauty now. I'm so inspired by them, that once soccer season is over, I'll probably feel confident enough to take the 450 out and do some circuits. To the left, of course.

But the right turns need a lot of work.

Spent a few minutes on Nose in, and a on each side.
Those orientations, in hover, are bad for me. I really need to spend more time working on them. I think they're suffering now that I'm getting the kinks out of FF, and spending more time at that.

Sat & looked at the Frankenheli.
One of my key components us on backorder, and I'm stalled without it. So I'm waiting.

As I'm building out the Frankenheli, I'm reminded more & more about how much I need a shop again. I'm almost ready to clear out an area in my current garage, and put a building bench in.
Then a drill press, and get some of my other tools out of storage so I can do this right. I'm in caveman mode at the moment, and not liking it much.

Helicopters don't fly, they beat the air into submission.

Very little wind today at lunch!

Flew the Exceed G2 (hovering around) and Trex clone.
Belt CP is awaiting parts.

Interesting thing happend w/ a guy flying a Trex 600. Gyro failed.
Here is the post I made

I've had a couple of "strange anomalies", but fortunately I've never had a gyro utterly fail in flight. And on a 600? Owie.

Well, I had another good day of flying wih all 2 battery packs. The usual - tiny circles both directions; racin06 ovals; working on toolman piros.

Started messing around with stall turns. I didn't quite have the nuttZorZ to go completely 90º vertical before the turn, but I will.

And, I actually did a complete "nose-walk" all the way around the circular drive of the school at which my last few vids were shot. I did have to stop and go tail in for a moment to get repositioned due to the angle of the sun, but I didn't land and carried on to the finish.

I'm finally starting to get that "locked-in" feeling people talk about when flying. It's nice to not panic or have to think when coming out of a move into an odd orientation.

Nose in was the key for me,
the better I get at it,
the more everything else falls into place.

Today was freaking awesome,
4 packs,
and it just feels great to zip around for four packs and land and think

Hey
I didn't crash

Today
I was doing pretty stable (same altitude throughout) circles (both directions, of three different sizes all intentional),
even some circle/piro's (not sure what you'd call them, but they are really tight)
stall turns with a piro (one turn, almost completed a double) at the top
and I did some turns that were angled as such,
that they might as well been loops because at the top edge of the turn the heli was well past sideways.

And my point to point skills have gone insane,
before I could FFF from point A to B,
but now I can set several points going around obstacles.

I love it!

I have only one thing left to decide,
do I start trying to practice inversion before I get a cameraman?

Or should I wait to try again (until I get a camera man)?

gyronut. Do you have a gyro on your foamie plank?
I got a cheap Sapac 330L earlier in the year. I think this is probably less than 2 lbs. Fly it w/ a 1500mAh 3S. I placed a spare old GWS gyro on it that I had laying around and I was flying it in 15mph winds! A little vertical bounce from time to time but I could still fly it.

Did a complete nose-in walk around that parking lot. I did have to stop and go tail in twice - once to switch off expo (I don't like expo), and once because I was nearly blinded by the sun.

But I made it all the way without having to land or bail out (exceptions noted). By this time next year I'll do it inverted (maybe).

WARNING: If you're prone to migraines or seizures watch at your own risk. I sped up the video 'cuz it was 6 minutes originally. Now it's 1:25.

So I was sitting at home watching the occasional cat and small dog blow past my window,
wondering

Is is too windy to fly right now?

(according to local weather, wind gusts at over 20mph)

Finally boredom got the better of me,
and I went out and flew 4 packs (I have 5 but one sucks really bad, it sets off the low battery alarm after only a minute or so, I have tested it and it continues performing well after the alarm, but I just don't want to chance it).

Even in wind that blew my hat off and even tried to blow the helicopter over
I flew.

And it kicked @$$!

I normally don't like flying in wind,
because I am fighting the wind the whole time and no time for play,
(before I could FFF surf the wind but thats it),
but now
I was doing everything that I was before (accept stall turn piros).

Wind still gives me the heebies. I'll chance maybe 10mph, but more than that, or if it's gusty, I'll live to fly another day.

Stall turns are messing with me. I can't quite get to 90º - more like 75º - 82º - before I drop collective and turn around. I also seem to lose a lot of altitude in the downward part. I was working on stall turns a bit today and one in particular where I almost got to 90º, on the down flight from about 80 feet up I didn't get flattened out 'til about 9 feet off the deck. I had to jack the collective to stay aloft. It did make an awesome blade noise, though.

Nose-in and racin06 ovals came so easy my confidence spiked. Now those damn stall turns are gonna wear me out.

Nose in is the ultimate keystone (for me) in heli flight,
keep working on that Shizack and you'll be ready for anything.

I land,
and take off nose in 90% of the time now.

My first battery I try to hover nose in for the entire battery (which I denounced before.....but I have seen the light!)

When I fly around all crazy fast like I do,
circles that are almost loops,
stall turns,
crazy piros,
and then zip it back to right in front of me,
pulling back and dropping throttle (I call it a stoppie)
and then smoothly land nose in,
I feel like a helicopter God.

I know I have lots of work to do yet,
but I remember the advice and due diligence I had to do to get me here,
and I can't wait for the future

Finally got my belt cp fixed with align 325 pro woodies, align tail boom and b400 tail box and tail shaft. I added an extra set of thrust washers to the spindle to tighte up the dampening.

Got one pack through it today, ran a low headspeed to test it out. I instantly noticed a pretty big increase in response, which will be even better once I get the blades tracked and run a higher HS It no longer balloons in fast backwards flight, probably because I removed the horizontal fin (it was broken)

Took off today. 6 packs until the winds picked up.
Flew the Raptor 30 w/ a higher head speed. Much better.
Flew the 75cc gas 2 stroke plank. People were complaining of the noise. They just could not hear each other talk trash.

The song is "Yakkety (or Yakety) Sax" by Boots Randolph. That should make it easier to find.
Chet Atkins even did a guitar version called "Yakkety Axe".

Flew today,
pushed it really hard,

ended up way too close to the ground in orientations way too sideways.

But

I didn't crash,

I was able to recover each time.

The most interesting thing I did was a sort of stall turn rainbow arch thing with pirouettes all the way across,
that was the first time I ended too close to the ground.

I planned the maneuver but I didn't plan on coming out so close to the ground.

Learned one really interesting thing,

that heli can really perform.

Once I know how,
this thing will be able to do some crazy crazy stuff.

Sorry had to wash my hands. I flew today its cold and a little breezy so I grabbed the big bird and the wife and daughter actually wanted to go and watch! I flew a whole tank till I got a bit of air and she leaned out a bit. I know its only one tank but thats like 3 batteries!

Just a comment, Thinking of Tryan with the "Big Bird".

There are a number of us that find ourselves more comfortable with our small birds after flying our big birds.

I find this counterintuitive as the SAY the big ones are easier to fly.

Mike,
I think its because the bigger ones cost alot more to repair. Im the same way.

We need video proof around here.

Its that after a easy flight with the big bird you find yourself at ease with the harder to control smaller electric. Its not so you should have more attention to it but the mellow has already kicked in.
