5 packs through the HBK2 today. Working mostly on nose-in half circles. Its coming along, slowly. Still not too happy with the tail. Can't wait for that V3 tail to come to the states. Caressed the T500 with my eyes and charged a pack for it. But ran out of time before the sun set. Maybe tomorrow.

Yes, I Flew today and Friday(500) and Saturday(500). Went to the RCHover Fun Fly on Friday and Saturday saw some incredible flying (and won a Rex500 scorpion motor in a raffle).

Today I had a major breakthrough. I have been stagnating and not progressing with my flying, so this morning I grabbed the Rex450 and went to the field intent on doing a loop, or crash trying. I can do it on the sim no problem but always let the fear factor stop me from doing it for real (except for a couple of ugly 1/2 flip 1/2 loops I did a few weeks back)

So with the 500 to fall back on if I crashed I just went for it.

And ???

Nothing - just did a loop, just like that perfectly round no drama, loads of height left - So now I know for sure it's 99% psychological.

Went on to do 40 more, Zero heart stops, Like I've been doing them for years

Oh and the best thing is YES I did get it on video

Today is a good day.

PS
Not my camera and I don't have a lead so it will be a little while before I post the video.

Stocky! Awesome, can't wait for the vid. Completely agree, the biggest hinderance to progress is between your two ears. At least for me, its also over thinking the crash costs. Having a second heli is very "free-ing".

Did you see Justin fly the new Extreme 550 ?

They gave him the heli and said OK see what you think.
Dad told him to be careful and to take it easy.

Blam.. Piro Flips 6" off the deck off the bat, a quick landing to make a TX adjustment and then a full 3D routine on a heli he has never even seen before.

I flew yesterday,
having 5 batteries is making a huge difference,
although I have only gotten through 4 both times I've went out.

Cut short the 1st time due to light,
and the second time I noticed pins coming out of my swash plate
I kinda wonder if this is because of how I am throwing her around now.

I've been really tempted to do a loop,
or an inverted hover,
but I am probably gonna hold off till I get a gy401.

I think I posted a rough equation to explain the heli phenomenon on here the other day,
I think I got it all nailed down now

Speed*investment
________________ *pitch*heading =heart rate

altitude

Pitch being 0 for upright and 180 for inverted (but no higher than 180 it would count back to 0).

Heading would be 0 for tail in and 180 for nose in and would work the same as pitch.

Oh the equation reads
speed times investment divided by altitude time pitch times heading equals heart rate.

I know good advice when I ignore it ;)

people who HATE heli's --- can't FLY Heli's !!! Don't concern yourself with the Heli's haters !

True, Doug. I met a fellow heli pilot a couple of weeks ago who also flies airplanes, as well. He told me that at his local club, a few of the airplane pilots don't care for the heli pilots. He said the exact same thing..."the airplane pilots that hate helis do so because they can't fly helis." Though he also told me that pilots who can fly both helis and airplanes are REALLY hated by some of the airplane-only pilots. It is his opinion that those who fly both helis and airplanes usually have better airplane flying skills than the airplane-only pilots.

Well I did some pretty good front flips this morning with the belt

But I had taken some time before starting the timer to get the gyro set up. On the last flip I heard the timer beep and the heli just smashed into the ground, tail first

-bent tail boom
-bent tail shaft
-bent flybar
-spindle snapped in half
-broken boom support and horizontail fin mount
-lost a damper and thrust washer
-snapped jesus bolt
-damaged one of the blades

Since the jesus bolt and spindle snapped the hub and blade grips flew off on impact preventing damage to the main shaft and everything below it. LHS should have everyting I need, but maybe I should get some upgrades online instead?

crashed my belt yesterday too. i was flying my 50 nitro in high winds. after emptying a gallon of fuel i wanted to fly somemore so i decided to take out the belt cp. after flying a 50 i became pretty fearless with the 450 - to the point where i tried things i probably shouldn't have like nose-in FFF LOL.

anyway, i ended up crashing. now in the rebuild phase. still had a blast.

If you have the CNC swash plate and are talking about the balls, those need to be loctite'd in. The best method is to remove them, clean both the threads with alcohol, and re-install. BTW, if you are running the Esky purple swash, the balls are aluminum and will wear quickly. The B400 long links are made of stainless and a drop-in replacement.

Figured out the honey bee king issue. After i got a 7cap, I was able to adjust the pitch to my liking. Any one know of the B400 main shaft and honey bee king 2 main shaft are the same?

I'm not following you here, what exactly happened, the esc cut off should wag the tail or pulse the motor before it cuts completely, are you saying the heli just shut off with 0 warning??

oh and just got done a flight with the 550 recharging some batts and going to fly the MT

It didn't shut off, it just reduced power. I'm not completely sure if it was the cutoff, there is a bit of a drop in power 30 seconds or so before the cutoff kicks in...

Maybe it was just a really bad flip

Gregor it's not the balls,
it's the esky purple (generic),
but it's the pins that hold the seesaw together,
where the black plastic meets the purple metal.

I CA'd some plastic "caps" over the sides where the pin was sliding out,
and after throwing her around this morning,
everything held great.

I am gonna get some footage today or tommorow,
but I don't know how impressive the footage will be because my camera doesn't have zoom,
so you can't really see what I am doing.

I know good advice when I ignore it ;)

Oh, the washout arms. Now I get it. As I recall, the pin is designed to stay in the metal part, and the plastic is suppose to pivot on the the pin. If you CA'd the pin to the plastic, it might come loose, or cause the pin to wear inside the metal part of the washout arm.

Regardless, good job catching that in pre or post flight inspection.

I can't really tell which is supposed to hold and which is supposed to be free moving,
but obviously the "holding" one wasn't doing its job

At any rate,
the motion is still free and smooth,
and they aren't slipping anymore.

I know good advice when I ignore it ;)
