Finally have a video
I wanted to do it with my 450sa but it's still down for repairs
So I dialed in my Raven30 and gave it a go
I'm not a 3d pro by any means
but I got the basics of forward flight with flips and rolls

Blade master,nice flying

heliraptor,my goal is to be a competition level 3d pilot,so that alone says what my thoughts toward 3d are,you need to ask yourself this,"what seperates the stick banger wannabe's from the pros?" 3 things, precision, control, and smoothness. you need to look at the big picture, many people just starting out and want to do 3d look at the freestyle vids and think thats all there is,they dont consider the set manuvers, which are 2/3 of the judging.and the set manuvers are all about precision, and control.

if you can do 3d on the sim but cant hover nose in on a real heli, you are putting the horse before the cart.thats just using the sim as a video game not as a training tool.the way I use the sim(as told to me by a few pro's)is you should be working on your current goal, your next goal and the "on deck" goal.if you can do crazy stuff on the sim and havent mastered flips and inverted hovering(or even side and nose in upright hovers),you are wasting your time, its not helping you as much as it could

I was also told by Alan Szabo and Bobby Watts who I have stood next to while they were flying and spoke with them both for a good while,a few things BOTH of them said, were, the most important thing to learn is hovers, upright and inverted, and they also both said one of the biggest mistakes new guys make is using speed and altitude to make up for skill, every manuver should be able to be performed slow and with complete control

you can do as you like,I'm only saying this to try to help, and everybody is entitled to their opinion and way of doing things,as this hobby is all about fun and doing what you want, but if you really want to be a good 3d pilot, what I am trying to tell you is a proven method of success, taking short cuts almost never works, and history has definately proven this.

this is not about wether 3D is cool or not, this is about becomming a great 3d pilot fast, safe, and with the fewest crashes possible

you may be able to get away with FF not having the hovers down pat,but I just got into funnels this summer, and there is no way you will be able to do funnels without having side and nose in hovers completely learned so eventually you will need them, they are the building blocks for all other manuvers, its really hard to build a nice house on a bad foundation

please dont think I'm picking on you or being a d$#ckhead, you really do have good basic skills, and I'm just trying to point you in the right direction,as it seems you are skipping a few of the important steps along the way

Fender

Reassuring words to those of us still working on our fundamentals.

As I've mentioned, I'd like to fly with enough confidence to enjoy scale or even do the photo thing.

Looks good but:

The video stops at 35 seconds.

Is the trouble just with me?

Fender was that aimed toward me or the general pubic

If it was me I have mastered the hover in all orientations except inverted

my goals are forward flight then backwards flight then inverted

I'm not realy into doing 3D although it looks cool
I just want to have fun doing acrobatics

1 of the reasons I like ASJ the most is because his flying is smoooth and flowing not stick banging and tail spinning.

Got a cx1 for christmas 06 started nitros in May 07 got a trex450sa in July 07
got a SIM for christmas in 07 finally started forward flight June08

the time frame might be 2yrs but actual flight time maybe 1 year

I was to scared to crash the $$$$ worth of equipment until after the SIM then I got used to recovery

But it wasn't until the recent funfly in my area where I learned to fly.

Thanks Old Fart

Love that contrail! I believe fenders comment was aimed at heliraptor. He's in that rut I can do it on the sim and with the lama. giving him false pretensions.

Heres the whole vid MMIKE nothing special just had to fly its been raining for 3 days. Im like blademaster Id rather be able to control a TREX in my garage than do the crazy tail in FFF we see a lot of in newbie vids. I got some catching up to do with BM though thats for sure.

BM, looking good man.

I'm personally not aspiring toward any kind of 3D, maybe, like you, some Scale flying, and some fun fly stuff, some simple aerobatics and such. But I need to get my hovering & orientations down first.

I was moving along really well with my 450, then for some reason, I took a left turn and decided I wanted to fly my 4#3 instead. So I've been 100% focused on that lately.

I have it down now to where I can hold it in a hover, and keep it in a confined space. I can't "spot" hover it yet, but it's a lot tighter than it ever used to be. I dunno, it's like all the sudden something clicked with that little bird, and now it just "hovers" where before I was to busy chasing it all over the room. It's kinda cool. I just ran 3 batteries through it, and on the last one, I actually LET GO of the sticks for a moment, and it just hovered there!

Then the world righted itself, and the lil wanker remembered what it was, and it started to take off sideways. heh heh.
But I can catch those now, and when I do let it wander afield some, I can bring it back. All cool stuff. I think it really started to click about 2 days ago, and it's just getting better with every flight.

It has finally stopped being frustrating, and started being fun!
I'm seeing myself starting with side in soon.. another week or so...

Hey! Does anyone know how to make an adapter to hook a 1s lipo to a 4s charger? I "THINK" I want the two outside wires, I don't need the balancing wire.

You can park a car in that "heli hangar".

depending on how the charger will see it If it will charge a 1S or not just put a balance plug on it and use the outer plugs these are the whole pack the wires in between are individual cells.

MMIKE I am not sure Ill ever park a car in there now.

Well done Tryan

thats where I was just a couple of months ago
You got to get used to heli before you can progress
That looked very well controlled

your very very close to forward flight

If I may share a little advice that I was given by Old Fart
concentrate on the canopy rather than skids or blades
reason being that the skids and blades can trick your eyes
but the canopy won't
Thats why the bottom of my canopy is orange the more orange I see it is moving away. less it is moving toward me

do you mean a 1 cell lipo? if so charge it through the output plug
if it is a 2 cell do the same but use a blinky balancer

Yeah thats something I got little of this year with the HDTV switchover building my garage and a 12 year old daughter who is in ever possible after school activity. I just got to nosein takeoffs and landings and had a dumb thumb when a kid ran by. Now Im scared to try it again I was a week and a half without a heli. And looks like next year We may be converting south america. Brazil just jumped on the bandwagon broadcasters were offered a tax break if they bought the equipment before the end of December. I have been taking my heli to work on days Im not riding my motorcycle. Enough about me and my excuses for not progressing this year. I cant wait to get this Raptor 30 in my living room going.
