Still no 3D,
but I got a lot more comfortable today,
and really gave her a work out.

Just really trying to push myself to move faster,
and change direction quicker,
and just generally fly harder.

It may not be up yet.

I know good advice when I ignore it ;)

looking pretty good heliraptor. I think you and I are at about the same place in our learning curve. I Do the same thing with the nose in. Come in from a nice big banking turn and then bring it right in towards me. Looks like a nice big place to fly too.

I was going to fly today, but a nasty old storm just rolled in. Looks like its sim time tonight. Dont mind too much because its double header monday night football.

Thanks!

Rain here now.

This is a google earth image of where I fly.

There is a Skate park in the upper right hand corner that isn't there yet on the sat image,
but other than that it is still the same empty place.

Quarter mile from top to bottom,
I'd die if I couldn't fly there.

I just learned a new trick to help with orientation on the sims.

Get the heli in a stable hover (normal or inverted),
and look away for a couple seconds (like at the game for instance),
depending on your settings and the sim,
after a few seconds the heli will have drifted and tilted and will be moments away from crashing.

And then you look back,
and have to fix it quickly.

I just started doing this,
and it seems to have helped already.

The theory is that with practice it will speed up your "reboot" time from blanking out.

got in two flights on the nitro

trex450sa still waiting for new servos and blades

I still get intimidated by the nitro because it so big and loud compared the 450

I started with nitro but got used to the 450 and fly it more often

Me too. It's so much easier to fly on a moments notice.

I slowed my nitro down some. It's easier / more fun / less intimidating now.

Put 4 flights through my Super FP this evening on a little league baseball diamond. This was the first time for me flying on a BB diamond. I'm accustomed to flying in very large areas in which I can really open things up. However, it was alot of fun in the confines of a BB diamond. I strived to keep the heli within the limits of the BB diamond, which is more difficult than is appears, especially when you are flying fast circuits...it takes very controlled flying to do so. All in all, it was a blast flying tonight.

I flew 2 batts tonight and it was not much fun,too windy to do anything, even hovering was a chore,so I packed it in.Its not much fun if you aren't really flying just fighting the heli, and trying not to crash, thats not my idea of fun.and darkness is creeping in earlier now,I need to leave for the field much earlier from now on

Just ran out 3 packs, and now I'm waiting for them to charge so I can do it again.

Still just hovering, but getting much more controlled all the time. I'm hovering out a whole battery more often now, so that's a good sign. I guess I must be learning something! I'm getting so that I can recover from the all to frequent "oopses", and get it back under a steady hover.

I even ventured into some new water today, and went for a few feet of FF. It was slow, and I didn't go far, but I was able to take it out a few feet (like about 10), and then back it up to bring it back to the hover area. To you guys that's nothing, but for me on that 4#3 it was a momentous occasion.

It's cooling it's motors now while the batteries are charging.
Then I'll go do it some more. If I can get it just a little more stable, I may even try a vid.

Nah, you guys don't want to see a lil 4#3 hover around...
But I'm enjoying the rotors off of it.

Thats the point of when your learning to fly.

As far as a video If you dont post a lame 4 3 vid I and I can imagine a few others will be upset talk is cheap.

heliraptor, can I offer some friendly advice?if you dont want to listen thats fine, but I'll at least put it out there.First I mean this is the best possible way and I'm being sincere as I want you to learn fast but safe and without crashing.I read your posts and listen to your commentary,FORGET ABOUT 3D for a while>you have great basic skills, and you are DEFINATELY on the right track but I sense a tad bit of 3D obsession

watch this vid and especially the first min or so,until you can do that with your heli AT WILL,inverted and or 3D stuff is a WELL PROVEN recipie for more rebuilding than flying, there are dozens of examples of fliers who have skipped this step and it leads to failure EVERY time.I mean this to help you in every way, take it or leave it,and so far I have NOT been proven wrong

http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t457535p1/

if you cant maintain a solid nose in hover for an ENTIRE battery, there is ABSOLUTELY no way you will be able to control an inverted heli where almost every stick movement is reversed including collective, many many many people have tried it most have given up and ALL have spent unnecessary ammounts of money on unneeded repairs.I have gone to inverted, flips, rolls, and funnels with 1 pilot error crash this season,so i know this method works, and I fly up to 7 batteries a day weather permitting,so i've had a lot of flights this season, well over 500

I'm following in Fenders footsteps and can't touch his daily flight regimen. But am progressing according to plan. I expect to be able to do 3d at some point, but I never think about it when I'm working my skillbuilding plan. I focus on the current skill I'm building and and stay focused until its done.

By the way, too windy to fly today so I spent some quality time on the T500 build.

Hey Greg,
To windy?
Nah, only when the windows are open, or the heater kicks on.
Y'all need a little house fly for day when it's to windy outside.

I just dont plan on 3D its easier that way dont have the time nor the patience cause doing it right will take a couple years dedication at the least.

My main deal,
is that I can tear it up in 3D on the sims with no orientation problems whatsoever.

With my lama I would fly all over place like crazy forwards and backwards,
nose in tail in.

But I think it's my nerves (on this heli) more than a lack of comprehension of reversed controls.

That being said,
I have resolved to be completely comfortable in normal mode,
before I try flipping that switch again.

We can argue all we want about whether or not 3d is what its all about or not,
but it is my goal.

So either way,
it's going to take some time.

Last night I tore it up at my park,
I did highspeed circuits covering nearly the whole area,
and banking HIGH.

Well I am off to the park now.....wish me luck.

I know good advice when I ignore it ;)
