Been buzzin the living room with the 4#3 tonight.
Dang it's nice to have it flying again. But I have to admit that after being off flying for a while, the 4#3 is a serious challenge.

But I'm getting it. The hovers are getting longer, and looking better.
I'm starting to suspect that the TBE just might be thumb induced.

WOOHOO!! Page 100!!!

Two Lessons from tonights flying

1) Longer flight times, means deader batteries faster. They seem to last longer if your flying session is made up of a bunch of 15-20 second flights. IF you're doing longer flights at one time, the batteries drain faster.

2) Sometimes, ya just gotta stop moving the stick, and give the lil heli time to settle in. lol

An observation: I'm starting to miss the smooth stability of my 450. Yep, I'm going to have to blow the dust off of it and get it out tomorrow.

Successes for the evening (so far): I'm actually starting to get what I would call sustained hovers from the 4#3. I was doing good with it before the electronics all went bad, and then I didn't fly it for a long time. Now that I have it flying again, I'd forgotten how to fly it. (touchy lil bugger). And so far, I'm not even thinking about side in, I can barely keep it in the air tail in.

But it's gettin' better.

nice job 100 pages. anyone fly the 22e. got mine flying pretty good finally. i use it to practice. makes the 450 seem like a cadillac. when i first started with this little heli i was told by a decent pilot, "if you can hover that thing, you can hover anything". so everytime i fly it i smile a little. kind of wondering how it compares to the 4#3. i put practice in on the 22e and then go fly my big helis and it's like swinging 5 batts when you're the on deck batter

That little 22e is probably three times the size of the 4#3. (21" main rotor, vs 7".

But your friend is right, when you can hover these little ones, the big ones are a piece of cake.
I remember when I first went from my 4#3 to my 450, I thought "holy smokes, I thought the 450 would be hard!" But you're right, a 450 is like using Dads Lincoln compared to the little ones.

But the little ones are great practice, and I can fly in the house at midnight without waking anyone up.

I flew today
Got some really good footage of the dynamic stabilizer.

I mounted the camera on to the TX,
and that worked out fairly well,
the only time I couldn't track is when I went really high, really close.
(best thing is, I don't have to worry about crashing into my camera man)

I've got some new parts installed and all working great,
Hitec hs 65 hb servos (only twice the price of standard esky and infinitely better)
DX6i (LOVE IT! so easy to set up install and program).
Esky Heading lock Gyro (has some real heat drift issues, but when its on, its on!)

I actually have that locked in tight feeling like from the sims.

I ditched the shark fin shape for the stabilizer, and went back to a new version of the original,
and they kick a$$.

I can move into sustained forward flight at the same (or lower) headspeed as hover.

The video is posted and will show up on youtube shortly,
will post a link then.

Yeah I got a pack in after doing some garage work. I almost got this thing dialed in perfectly.

Smoooth,
was that a light piro,
or was that full stick?

I am trying to get mine set back up (new HH gyro),
and I can't get the damn thing to piro very well.

Whereas before,
I could take it into a flat spin,
as if the tail had fallen off (going either way).

So it kinda has to be the gyro right?

yep on a HH gyro its the piro rate setting I know on futaba gyro its EPA on rudder channel. I forgot how to do it on other ones.

Mine is a gy240 epa at 140 that was a full stick piro I was in normal mode at half stick not enough to really hammer the tail but 3 piros aint bad I fell out of it on the beginning of the 4th ran out of umph.

Couldn't fly at the soccer park today. Young'uns everywhere. So I went back to the trusty ol' softball park and burned a couple of packs.

More nose-in, and I tried that "incoming oval" thing.

Tried 3d today,
almost pulled off a sort of flip loop thing,

But even though I started off much higher, (and was in "stunt" mode)
I wasn't high enough,
and by the time I righted my self it was a little too late.

Sorry I don't have video,
I get stage fright,
plus when I am shooting my own stuff, I don't want to worry about the camera while challenging myself.

I had my first helicopter bite last night.

My new remote has a throttle lock switch (set at 0 all the way),
so when working on swash settings I just switch that on (lazy).

I was really tired last night,
and I unplugged everything,
and I noticed that I left the servos all at weird angles,
so I turned the tx and centered the collective stick to center the servos,
and then for some stupid reason I turned the throttle lock off,
with the stick still centered.

She came to life the tail swung past my face,
as the heli twisted up and around,
then the tail went past my hand and got my finger pretty good,
and then the heli finished getting airborne,
and with the hand it just cut I reached up and snatched it out of mid air by the tailboom,
and cut the throttle.

Live and learn
Stupid thing is,
it was just utter laziness, the motor is so easy to unplug.

Here is the blood on the tail rotor.

I didn't fly as I've had a fever over 100.

As yall might remember, my flying has not been up to par.
