Yea, keep us posted when you try the Spartan. These new gyros are really getting good! Their consistant rotation even in wind and fast flight really helps in 3d. Futaba needs to build a new gyro, and include a new govenor also, in one package.

Here is a pic of the head that the addendum was written around, the only change we plan to make is to move the washout arms to the outter hole to see what that does as far as flybar movement and cyclic

Rock,

Any particular reason why you went with the out hole on the short side of the mixing arms? The inner hole will give you faster response. After flying the heck out of my Xtreme 50 with my set up, I like how quick the cyclics are yet she is very solid in a hover and during FFF.

If you look carefully, I have the top mixing arm swapped like Clyde does in his pic.

I talked to Clyde over the weekend, and this is what he recommended.

Thanks again Clyde!

So is this the hottest setup with good stability so far or has anyone found an even hotter setup with reasonable stability ?

I have been flying my X50 as Clyde has recommended except I'm using the inner hole for swashplate rod on long mixer arm, and outer hole for flybar on short arm. This gives me a nice balance between quickness on cyclics and some good locked in stability. I'm using TR 610's and 95mmV paddles, cyclic 7.5 deg. collective +- 12.5. I'm able to get plenty of collective and cyclic without binding, only at extreme collective the elev. rods hit on the aluminum arm. Clyde's set-up was too slow for my cyclic tastes, I have a roll rate of approx. 360 deg. per second. I'm also using the outer position on the flybar washout arms. This thing just "rocks" in piro flips, piro manuevers, good locked in feel. It's nice to have a head that's so adjustable...you just have to invest the time and go play with it! My HS is aprox. 2000-2100 my tach broke.

We tried a few things at the field this afternoon, moved the balls on the washout arms to the outter hole and flipped the mixing arm so that the 3 holes are now facing the grips and the 2 holes away, it is definetly quicker and it still remained stable. At first we had way too much pitch so we dialed it down to 12.5 top and bottom and battery got too low to take a chance so we'll test fly it again tomorrow, trying to get it tweaked for the river this coming weekend

Clyde,

Let us know what the final config looks like that you end up with and like the most!

Sounds like I need to at least flip the mixing arm on the main grips though, huh?

Razz,
1. can you advise on your canopy mods ? looks like a Synergy (actually i liked the looks!)
2. Did you try this setup using Radix blades as well ?

We tried the Radix 600's but found the best blade for Steven's flying style on the X50 was the Rotortech 610 3D blades, he likes to do tail slides from the moon and pull out at eye level and the Rotortechs have not failed him yet as they are stiff enough to byte when you need them.

They had much more flex before they bit, try a set of RT610's you will feel the difference immeadiately, the Radix flew great as do the RJX 600's he just likes the feel of the RT610's for his flying style

I too prefer the RT 610's over the Radix 600's. Not only are they quicker on the cyclics, they auto just as well. The RT 610's are 10g lighter each, but the extra 10mm in length make up for the reduced weight during autos. They are quiet when you want them to be, but they can "pop" almost like V's when you need them to.

canopy Mods...I just used the stock X50 canopy and cut the lower and upper canopy lines to give a more tapered, sleek look. It's very easy with a dremel. I also used some Hirobo Lepton frame supports, in place of the rear canopy supports, to pull the canopy in towards the frames, better aerodynamics and looks in my opinion. I used HOK neon paints and PPG clear coat, just tape off a longer, Synergy looking windshield and your set. I just really like the look of the N9 and Aurora type canopies. I hope RJX will come out with some higher quality paint jobs, with different designs, or maybe Arizona heli will start producing some modified canopies.

IMO this heli is superior to the Align stuff, in quality and flight performance. Pilots do enjoy having a choice of canopy paint designs, and maybe thats one reason the align stuff is so popular.

I3DM your flying is terrific!
