RJX Hobby Hurrican 50 - Xtreme 50 > Setup for head

I started building the head last night, and was wondering what the consensus is amongst the Xtreme Team on what the best setting is.

4-2 Washout Arms: Inner or Outer hole?

4-6 Mixer Arms: Short End - Inner or Outer?

4-6 Mixer Arms: Long End - Inner/Center/Outer?

4-8 Mixer Arm to Blade Grip: Inner/Center/Outer?

Flybar Carrier: Install Ball Arm Inner/Center/Outer?

Thanks guys!

look at the addendum sheet that came in the kit, that is what Steven is currently flying, it is a very agressive and stable setup that Matt Botos helped me with.

OK.

For example:

For the 4-2 washout arms: If I remember, the manual says that the most aggressive position is the outer. But the addendum has a red box pointing to that part, and says to go inner. So I should go with the inner???

Thanks Clyde!

I have to agree with Clyde and Dave (did I just actually say that..LOL ). I have mine set up according to the addendum sheet. This results in very fast cyclics yet is stable in a hover.

Only if you want to set it up as a trainer

Use outer holes in washout arms, this will maximize the paddle deflection.

Here's how I have mine set up. I used the recommended setting from the manual and the extra addendum. As I stated earlier, it is xtremely (pun intended ) fast on the cyclics yet very stable in FFF and hovering.

Your blade grip lever is not supposed to be parallel with the blade grip. Its supposed to be 90 from the long link. In that photo its definatly parallel with the blade grip.

That's what I thought. But doesn't the addendum say to use inner???

Anyway, nice pic Gary! Can you get another one even closer that might show these two areas not seen in the current picture:

4-8 Mixer Arm to Blade Grip: Inner/Center/Outer?

Flybar Carrier: Install Ball Arm Inner/Center/Outer?

I can't see what holes these are in the picture.......

If you set it up according to the addendum, you have to make it parallel, or you won't get even throws. I didn't see that note on the addenedum when I set mien up and set it so the lever was 90 degrees, and fought with it for an hour before I noticed the note and leveled it and had even throws positive to negative.

Hang on, so your telling me that the new settings say to make the blade grip lever parallel to the blade grip, or 90 degrees to the main shaft? Not 90 degrees from the long link?

The ones that are in the addendum, yes. In that config, the lever on the blade is flipped. If you set it up so it's 90deg like the instructions said before, you end up with something like +12 and -16 deg pitch.

There is an adendum that we in the USA are including in the kits that RJXofUSA is shipping, we have tested the head setup that my son RJXofUSA pilot is currently using and have included that setup in the kits we are selling over here.

As you know this is a fully programmable head and there will be quite a few different ways to set the head up, this is just one way that myself and Matt Botos came up with that made the heli very responsive and very stable at the same time, Matt and Steven flew the machine in a big tail first hurricane hands off.

No one is saying this is the best way just an alternative that is working for Steven so we decided to pass it along, Steven is going to move the washout arms to the outter hole and test fly it to make sure he doesn't loose stability.

Here's another pic that I had in my gallery. This pic was taken from a higher angle. You should be able to see what you need... The mixing arm is in the center hole on the blade grip arm. The ball is also in the center hole in the flybar carrier.

Gary,
I want to be sure that I get the mixes correct with what Clyde is currently using. Your pic doesn't show the blade mix arm backwards, the short side should be turned towards the blade grip, long to swashplate-correct? Your'e just using a little of both setups, correct.

I found a pic of Clyde's set up a few pages back. He has everything set per 'red' instructions...but the instructions do not show the mixer arm flipped 'short for long' it just talks about doing it in red print.

Clyde's set up will be more stable, with less cyclic input into the blades, and more flybar input, also with less paddle deflection. A more stable set-up. I've seen many set up the head as depicted in the diagram(short side to swashplate, long to flybar) and being very happy.

Are you flying yours with your current pic set up? I can see why you would have lots of "pop".

Clyde's blades and paddles will also influence the feel greatly. I guess I'll be trying both setups. always looking for that "lock in feel" but with good cyclic authority!

Delamar,

Here are the links to the updated manual and addendums taken from the RXJ of USA website:

Brian,

I am currently flying it the way I have it in the pic. I found it to very stable during a hover and FFF but very fast on the cyclics. I was actually surprised by how quick the cyclics are.

Gary thanks,
I'm going to try the mixer orientation as you have it initially, but I'm going to use the outer hole on the short arm to swashplate first. I'm getting a good 7.5 deg. on cyclic pitch, and plenty of collective pitch +- 13.

I like a quick heli, but I must have some good stability also. It's nice to have a head with many choices. Can't wait to try it! The rain must end sometime?

How do you like the 6100? I have one in my Lepton, very impressed. But I have not flown it on a nitro heli. Currently using an Solid G. in my Stratus-removed it for my X50. Can you compare both gyros? The constant piro rate is what really is good with the solid G. Even the Hirobo Lepton has great piro rate, very consistant compared to the Fut 611.

Brian,

The 6100 works great. It too has a very consistent piro rate. When I flew it in 20+ mph winds a couple of Sunday's ago, the 6100 had a gorilla grip on the tail. The tail never blew out and the piros, even in the wind, were very consistent.

Dave (aka buzzsaw) has the 770 in his Xtreme 50. He likes it very much. It too was performing well in the wind. I will let him chime in to provide more info, since I have never flown the 770.

I am awaiting the the next shipment of Spartan 760's. I have one on backorder and will be replacing the 6100 with it. I am very eager to try out the 760.
