i agree with everything said, i would carry on myself, but everything i was going to say has already been said, haha.

our club is the same, or any club i have been to. charging people for help is greedy and un-ethical. fly the sim, and find some people at your field, pro's or not, chances are someone can help you, for free.

everytime im not flying and i see a new pilot show up, i do what ever i can to help them out, and i never ask for anything in return.

Heliguy, I'm not real familiar with your area other than having passed through a couple times. I would say most people on RR who have gone through the pain of trying to learn by yourself will tell you that it will be worth your time to drive a couple hours if you have to to get some assistance. I'm sure there must be heli pilots close to you who can help. Give it a couple days and see who else chimes in on this post. If you don't get adequate responses you are welcome to come and visit our club in Delaware (http://www.delawarerc.org/). We have a beautiful club and many good fliers, including instructors, trainer ship, buddy box, etc. PM me offline and I will direct you to the individual who usually does training. I would guess we're ~2hour drive from you, maybe less depending on traffic.

Good one Dave.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

Have you guys seen his "package deals"???

For the Beginner Package deal:
- Beginner - (Must know how to Hover) Forward Flight, figure 8 to Nose In Flying - $500.00

That's awesome! He takes you from basic hovering ALL THE WAY to nose in flying for only $500!

My god, I know nothing about this guy so it's hard for me to criticize, but that's a freaking JOKE!

I heard that my local heli-only club now has an instructor that charges $5 an hour. And that's using HIS equipment! Now that's a bargain!

As before, there is no reason to PAY someone to teach you to fly.... it's part of the hobby and I think most would agree. Also if I am correct if you are a part of AMA you are not allowed to take money for teaching.

Buy a sim. Get help here many are willing to offer it.

That's a new one. So many interesting made up facts about the AMA, we should make a list.

CLICK HERE, for the AMA regulations. i could be wrong, but i didn't see anywhere that no one is allowed to make a profit from teaching.

Gotta say I think many of the opinions are way too harsh, even for someone of Manny's reputation. He may be living in his own world but I say give the guy a break. It's called marketing and most marketing is 5 star BS anyway.

I've met people in the UK who DO prefer to pay for heli lessons at between £20 and £30 per hour, even after offering them free setup and flying tuition (by me and other more accomplished pilots). With a paid instructor they get to fly at the arranged time, not when a club member happens to be around. Also, they feel they have an incentive to learn and therefore make the most of their investment. They truely believe that something free can't be as good as something paid for.

In my opinion the best flyers don't always make the best instructors. From my school days I'm well aware that some of the most academically gifted teachers were not terribly good at the art of teaching. It takes patience, for one thing, when your student repeatedly struggles to overcome a particular hurdle.

So what I'm trying to say HeliGuyNJ is why not give Manny the benefit of the doubt and don't give too much credence to a gang of character assassinating bullies.

Manny Lalo's thread is long and sorted but worth reading just for the entertainment value. Plus you can get all the Manny references that are still being successfully dropped into various threads.

Todd Bennett charges $65 an hour for flight school.
I realize there is a pretty big difference between Todd and Manny.

I also understand when flying under instruction from Todd, you use their equipment, unlike 3Deez by Manny, Inc. <---I made that name up

Anyways, no one seems to have a problem with Todd bennet's school

You lads are all forgetting.....Manny is a "PRO".....On this side of the pond, a" PRO" is a person who looks out for punters, then FxxxS them for a wedge of cash.....sounds just like Manny

the problem with that thread was that Manny later on edited out all his comments. but you can still read them because everyone was quoting him, LOL.

probably the funniest part was how he would speak in third person. it confused the heck out of me. he was creating posts making it sound like someone else was speaking for him, but it was just him refering to himself in third person.

Furious Predator thought it was hilarious

now im not saying he is a bad pilot by any means, but he is no where near the top. judging yourself to be at that level is just living a lie.
