Hey guys,

After a few months of research and learning, I bought a Trex 500 recently. Here in NJ (I'm in a town called Medford) the local club has a few helicopter pilots, but so far I've been unsuccessful in getting anyone to find some time to help me learn. I did a Google search and found a dedicated RC helicopter club about 35 minutes from me - South Jersey Flyers. Curious if any members of the club are RR?

Also, they have a dedicated instructor who has a website offering flight instruction at $45.00 per hour. The guys name is Manny Lalo. Has anyone worked with him in the past? Any success in learning the basics (hovering, FF, etc) from him? According to his website, he's a pretty accomplished pilot. I plan to contact him to get a sense for his availability to train me. I'm ok with paying his hourly rate if it makes me a better pilot...

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. I've been using the sim like crazy, but really want to get the 500 in the air!

Theres been some talk of him going around. Hes an accomplished pilot in his own mind. IMO you shouldnt have to pay anyone to teach you ( unless your using their equipment).
You already have the simulator and if you can fly that..... Just see if you can find someone to look over your machine, and test fly it for you. Slap on some training gear and have at it.
If you cant find anyone PM me im from PA but have friends in NJ. if you cant come here i could make a trip down there.

I'm sure if you searched his name, you'd find a lot of stuff on him. No one really has respect for him cause he considers himself to be on the big boys' level (Alan Szabo, Curtis Youngblood, etc...) but all he really is, is talk.

Avoid Manny Lalo. Charging someone $45 an hour to teach them to fly is ridiculous. He's a liar and trying to take advantage of people. He is arrogant, and his "3-D " setups with cheap digital servos that aren't made to be used in 30 or above helicopters are a joke.

He's no expert, only in his own mind! I wouldn't trust him as far as you can throw him. You should see his E-bay adds where he tries to everyone what an expert he is. The guy is looney.

To be honest, I am sure Manny Lalo could teach you how to fly.

With that being said, and as you will see in this thread as the replies come rolling in, RR Members do not favor Manny Lalo for his egotistical and falsely self promoted status. Some people question the items he sells on ebay, including potentially misleading information about his products.

Do what you need to do. RunRyder is a lagre community, and I am sure someone (possibly in this thread) could save you $45.00 per hour and give you a hand.

I need to bump my rates up for flight training, the going rate was $0 an hour. You should be able to find some one in your area to help for free. That's why most of us are in this hobby is to help other people enjoy the hobby and get them pointed in the right direction.

You will find that one of the best things about this Hobby is that there are people out there who will help and advise beginners with there Setups for free, find yourself a good club or ask about at your LHS, you will learn very fast who you can and cannot trust if you get involved with a twat like Manny.

Well, looks like this guy has made quite the bad reputation for himself.... I just looked over this website. It's actually hysterical when you read it. This guy thinks he's some sort of flying god... Talking about how he is a prodigy and such. My god, if he was so smart, he'd run a spell checker and fix all the poor grammar...

I'm bummed, as I was pretty excited to have a supposed "Pro" show me the ropes...

BTW - Many thnaks to all the great PM's from local folks offering to help. Say's alot about the hobby and the people in it.

Hey I live in Pa but work in NJ, not sure where Medford is but if its anywhere near Somerset, Bridgewater / Raritan area, I'll teach ya. There is a great flying field up here on Somerset, but there are also some great isolated spots nearby (non-AMA) that'll work also.

Hey I jsut looked for Medford, nj. Its near Marlton and Evesham. I have a good friend who just moved down there and said there are a bunch of fields where the locals fly. I will ask him where exactly, maybe he can point you to a local spot that woould be closer to you.

This kills me, Manny just keeps coming up. Someone will teach you to fly for free, charging for it is ridiculous. Come fly out to Iowa and spend a week with me, I'll get you up and flying for free, hell, you can even use my helis. Of course, getting out here and spending a week might be pricey, but I had to offer.

that is the beautiful thing about this hobby, you can go to just about any field or funfly and someone will offer their hand to help. I don't know where in NJ you are but if your down in the Delaware area there are a bunch or guys here that will help too. I won't charge a thing, just want to see the hobby keep growing.
