RJX Hobby Hurrican 50 - Xtreme 50 > My X50 canopies and build pic's!

Hello all,
I just finished my complete X50 build with some modified canopies-HOK paints, just wanted to try for a more streamlined look. I also added a Carb Smart on my TT53. I'm running an 8v. system DX7 with 8717's, Spektrum VR5203-5.2v reg. for (solid G gyro, revmax, carb smart- Hitec 65HB), flight power Evo RX 3000ma, Fut. heavy switch with dean connectors, Rotor tech 610's with V 95's for paddles.

I also checked the current draw with a "watts meter". With all servos operating on the bench, and I loaded the swashplate with my hand, the peak amps. were 3.7. I will check it in flight soon, can't wait to get it in the air!

After triming my canopies to get a more streamlined look, I added some carbon fiber to the sides and top for some more stiffness...I also used some shorter canopy mounts in the back to pull it in for backwards flying. My canopies weighed in at 170 grams (6oz), more than I wanted. It would be good to see RJX make some canopies unpainted-for us to paint, with a slightly heavier glass cloth-for a bit more strength. I will get a full weight tommorrow, hopefully not more than 7lb 6 oz., or I'll loose the header tank!

I used Hirobo freya grommet and bushings set #0404-547, shortened the bushings, then used button head screws to attach. Very secure, no screws to come loose-same as my Stratus-works great!

I also used a Quick UK tail clamp for the Align, it's a tight fit but works, way more rigid and saved me 6 g. Looking forward to flight testing soon!

Looks good. Going for the Synergy look with you canopies? Let us know the RTF weight minus fuel.

Extreme 50 weight

Well I just weighed my Extreme 50 using USPS scales...just the airframe and blades ready to fly without the canopy was 7lbs. 7.8oz. My canopy weighs 175 with mounting screws, putting me at a total weight of 7lbs. 14oz. or 7.9 lbs. I thought the airframe would be a little lighter, even with a light pair of rotor tech blades @126g., my electronics are very light DX7 running 8v. with VR 5203 regulator, but the servos are heavy at 2.36oz for 8717's, also carbsmart is installed-equals .9oz. total with servo. Even though it's a bit heavier, I believe the performance difference with 8v. and 8717's is worth it. I'm going to remove the header tank, and use a slightly modified OMI fuel magnet(to fit into the tank).

Here's a break down on some of the weights.

3 8717 servos 2.36oz.ea
3 9351 servos 2.0 oz. ea
Spek. VR5203 reg 7g. (.3oz)
carb smart, hitec 65HB servo, push rod .9oz.
Flight Power Evo RX 3000 160 g. (5.7oz)
RJX muffer 180g. (6.4 oz)
Rotor Tech 610's 126g.(4.5oz)
Radix 600's 140g. (4.9oz)

My painted canopy with hardware 175g (6.2oz)

A few mentioned some really light weights for their Extremes, I think their scales were off a bit! I saw posted 7lbs. 6oz. with fuel! They must have some ultra light fuel.

With all my new gear and the canopy mounted, mine tips the scale at 7 lbs 10 oz RTF minus feul. This is still an acceptable weight for a 50 size nitro IMO.

Thanks guys for the compliments. I believe the weight will be ok, the fuel tank is large, I'm removing the header tank and going to use a modified OMI fuel magnet(just removing a little material on the clunk so it will fit into the small tank opening). I hoping to get a few flights on monday!

Hopefully, this heli will become very popular and folks like Arizona Heli will make some canopies for painting, plus offer their painted canopies...or maybe RJX will find a few different paint schemes...similar to what align has done. Having some variety would be a good thing!

I see that a few JR Vibe 50 posts are showing a RTF weight of 7.9 lbs. Now I dont feel so bad! I figured that it was going to be heavier than a stock Extreme. That weight was with no header tank also. It will be interesting to see some flight comparisons, and crash comparisons between the Vibe and Extreme. The Vibe looks pretty rugged and a bit larger in size. It looks to me that the CG of the Extreme is closer, higher to the tail boom. But I do like the Vibe canopy better.

Gary,
Your build is looking sharp! Will be interesting flying with the RT 610's, I just hope the auto's will be ok! Most say that they are faster on cyclics with greater 'pop' than the Radix 600's. Radix needs to make 620's!

While the RT 610's are 10g lighter than the Radix 600's (125g vs 135g), I think they will auto just fine. Since each RT 610 blade is 10mm longer, you are gaining 20mm in overall length. The rotor disc area will be larger. I flew the RT 710's on my 90's and they auto'ed great. I will let you know how the auto after I fly them this weekend.
