Woo Hoo - It's beautiful man!

I started the build last night. She's going together very nicely!

I love building, but it always amazes me how little progress you make after the first couple hours! But I do take special care such as sanding the edges of the frames and all the holes. This makes it look much nicer, feel better when running your fingers over it, and helps to prevent wires from chaffing.

This represents my first 4 hours with the kit. At least it's starting to look like a heli somewhat!

Oh, I forgot to ask about the frame alignment.

I bolted both frames together. I didn't use locktite (which is the correct procedure, and per the manual), and I kept the screws about 1/2 turn from torqued.

So I inserted the main shaft to align the 3 bearing blocks, and slowly started tightening the screws down. I focused on the bearing block screws only, tightening each one a little at a time, while making sure that the main shaft could move up and down in the blocks under its own weight.

When the bearing block screws were completely torqued, the main shaft could move in the blocks under its own weight. Nice.

Then I tightened the remaining frame screws down a little at a time. However, when I was done, the main shaft would no longer move under it's own weight.

So I think I have 2 options here:

1. I can loosen the bearing block screws, try to realign, and tighten them back down.

or 2. I could loosen all of the screws, and slowly tighten them down again, but instead of doing the blocks first, do the entire frame while checking the main shaft.

So which option is the correct and best practice for building and aligning the frames?

Thanks guys!

Doug,

Just loosen the bearing block screws and re-align and retighten, that should straighten everything back out.

is that aileron bell crank too tight?

reason i ask is because its holding a 90 degree angle but on my machine it also falls under its own weight

It's actually quite loose. Just barely can hold it in this position under its own weight. I deliberately set it in this position for the pic.
