Nice that we now have some daylight to play around in at the end of the workday. Got home from work and burned another break-in tank of nitro in the Zoom 450 out in the backyard, then I get the urge to fly the HBK2.

BAD IDEA...

The King2 and Zoom fly completely different, the HBK is way more nimble and responsive, not to mention FAST. I just plain F'd up on the sticks, it reacted much faster than my brain was dialed in for after flying the Zoom and I couldn't catch it before it got up close and personal with the stockade fence

At least I have pretty much all the necessary parts to fix it on hand, just missing a maingear and the tail boom support bracket. I can get a Blade 400 maingear at the LHS, and he may have the boom bracket on hand as well. There's another indoor fly Thursday night and I'd really like to go, but I've got some work to do first

Lesson learned, take some time to recalibrate the brain and fingers when switching between heli's...

Sorry for your loss !! I know exactly what your talking about--- every single heli flies just a little different and one second too late on the brain reconfiguration --- its crash time

Dude that sucks I too have two helis that will fly totally different. It is good to hear about this because it makes me think before hand and hopefully that will save some heart break.

I went from coaxial to king many times and DAMN I couldnt hold a hover to save my arse. But I learned to go through a preflight memory check. OK stupid its gonna drift left so correct right its gonna overcorrect right so go left and for gods sake go slow on the cyclic dont start slapping sticks like the coaxial.

Just did a test hover on the king with a pair of blades that are about to come apart I did as good as possible. I just dont know what to do with it yet. Im kind of discouraged I only get a 5min flight with the scale body too many layers of paint. But a cp heli is a cp heli the Rex is easier to takeoff and hover but the king is easier to fly The rex is super sensitive on the collective I'm flying it full deflection on the cyclic with no expo.

Crash update

There will be no indoor flying with the King 2 this week

Started making repairs and noticed the lower part of the frame is in three pieces and I know the LHS doesn't have them in stock. Placed an order with HeliDirect who does have it plus a couple other things I need and is only 10 miles up the road, but I won't get the order until Thursday, leaving zero time to rebuild before the fun fly

If only they had a storefront instead of selling internet only, I could detour over there on my way home from work

Looks like if I want to fly inside it's got to be the Trex or nothing, and I don't feel comfortable flying a heli that big inside a building with metal basketball net frames hanging from the ceiling

I guess I might as well tune up the nitro birds and get ready for a day at the field this weekend...

If you want to keep flyin, you gotta have backups

I blame it all on the guy that got me into flying heli's. He got me hooked, gave me a whiff of nitro, then sold me his old Raptor 30. The rest as they say, is history...

I went 100miles one way to a indoor fly last year and said Im gonna do this I already built a heli. But put it aside and got the BCPP after hundreds of dollars in learning. I was ready I had my KING packed up ready to go back and participate instead of spectate. It was cancelled they would no longer rent the gym to the guy.

Sorry about the crash. As Doug has noticed, I kind of have "crashaphobia". Would you be so kind as to give a report of how well the purply stuff handled the "rapid deceleration trauma"? I recently installed mine as a reward for being crashless in '08 but I know it's coming...

The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.

Bent spindle shaft, various plastic linkages busted, broken blades, stripped main gear. The purple pieces themselves hold up fine, all the weaker stuff breaks...
