Safety - RC Helis are not toys > Neck strap or not?

I have been told in no uncertain terms that neck-straps to support the TX are dangerous and I shouldn't use one. My feeling is that they're safer because they increase comfort and security, and that the objection (that if you disconnect the strap the karabiners might catch in a rotor or propellor and be flung into your eye) isn't really relevant to me, as I only fly electric helicopters.

Any thoughts?

I use one just so I know I can keep my hands free if I need to pick my heli up, and its not like your gonna fly with only your fingers on the gimball(if you use your thumbs).

Rc helis isnt a hobby, its an addiction!

I use one, which as a quick and easy release, for two main reasons: 1 - to know that my Tx is always the same distance from my nose, make me more comfortable. 2- So it will not slip and fall.

I wish I could fly 24/7

It is absurdly simple to connect a belt-mounted retractable security pass cord to the clip, so when you undo the TX, the clip is pulled in against your body.

And by the way, the danger is still there with an electric... if you walk up to your heli while it is spooling down, for example.

I use one but.......one time the cord increased the throttle!! Lucky it was not much, no damage, no one hurt.

If a neckstrap is used always disconnect it from the tx. I just leave mine around my neck, all the time. Sometimes its still there when I get home cuz I forget to pack it in the tx case.

In my plank flying days I never used one. With my helis I do, but I don't wear it around my neck, I go from left shoulder across and under my right arm. It never hangs down when unclipped, and it's always where I like it. I too, usually end up wearing mine home without thinking about it.

I would recommend it, as simply it is one less thing to think about. When you are 3D'ing, it is hard enough to concentrate on that, without the thought that your Tx could slip always in the back of your mind, which can be just a little distracting!

I started using one while I was learning to fly. Each time I got spooked I'd clutch the tx closer and higher. I used the strap to help me relax and let the tx sit on the strap. I was getting stiff shoulders hanging on for dear life.

I use the strap as it takes the weight off my hands ( JR tx's are bricks). as for leaning down over my heli, i leave the strap attached to the radio, and before i go NEAR the heli i hit the throttle hold switch, or kill the engine. when i'm carrying out to the flight line, i have throttle hold on also, with my left thumb holding the stick down. Also [B]Check your Switches for position b4 startup, hotstarts suck
