e-Hirobo SRB Quark - Lepton - XRB Coaxial > Kora 15-12 vs Hyperion 3025-10 on 4s

On my Lepton #1, I'm running the Hyperion 3025-10 with 23T pinion.
On my Lepton #2, I'm running the Kora 15-12 with 21T pinion.
ESC is Jazz 80-6-18 in both cases and the helis are exactly the same in all other respects as well (maybe a tiny bit of weight difference).

Also, I'm using the same batteries FP4s-3700 (25C) in both cases.

I was expecting the Kora to be more powerfull but it seems like it bogs easier than the Hyperion when I push the collective (collective range is -9 to +9). I haven't done formal tests yet using my eLogger, but I can hear the difference ...

Did I have the wrong expectations from the Kora 15-12 on 4S ?

Thanks

I also noticed that my batteries took 300mAh more after flying the Kora than after flying the Hyperion...

I think 15-12 is best on 5S.... For 4S, 15-10....

Sometimes, It maybe just the ESC settings..... What's best ESC for 3025-10, don't necessarily mean would work best with 15-12..... 3025 has 12 pole magnets..... Kora 15 I believe has more, maybe 14 pole.... Magnet pole count power is directly affected by ESC commutation timing...... Too low and too high a timing setting could cause higher amp draw..... Normally, higher pole count requires higher timing..... It has to be match, also with how fast your spinning the motor......

I ran the same configuration and found the Kora did not like 22T
Even in a roll the headspeed would wash off
But drop down to a 21T and it will outclimb the 3025

Certainly 5S would work even better

Two things I like about the Kora,
30 grams lighter and always cool

I'm using the Jazz in both cases which automatically adjusts to the motor. So there aren't any ESC settings with respect to the motor that I can change.

The pinion selection was made with respect to the KV of the motor so that I get about the same RPM with the Kora that I get with the 3025.

I certainly like the fact that the Kora isn't even getting warm in the cool early spring air.... I bet it'll stay below 100F even in the hot summer days.

I'll try the 21T (I think I have one).

On pole count (which is important in order to set up my eLogger correctly): Isn't the Kora 15-12, a 12 pole motor ? How can I find how many poles the 3025-10 has ?

Thanks for the responses !

You know something,,,,, 14 pole is just my wild guess,,,,, based on the diameter of Kora 15.... Seems Kontronik web site didn't publish that info..... The manual that came with your Kora might have that info..... Anyway, you could count the number of either magnet or stator pole inside..... That should be the pole count.....

And maybe you just need smaller pinion like jafa said.... Even if the calculation shows otherwise..... It's the load capability of the motor that dictates the actual HS you will get....

Same thing here: One with the stock motor 10T (Ibelieve it is hyperion). And the other with Axi 10T. The Hyperion or stock whatever it is has more power. But its magnets are adhered very mildly and I had to glue them all again....

The German site for Kontronik shows the Kora 15-12 has 14 "polzahl"s.

He-hey.... I'm good at guessing....

Fernando,

I couldn't figure out what you're saying...... 10T AXi?

Anyways, I'm still experimenting 2826/8..... I'm playing with the timing..... I increased it to 25*, 1 degree higher than the manufacturer suggested...... Somehow, my peak amp draw was reduced by 6A, and draw at 0* pitch dropped by 2A.... Bogs less during heavy loading too....... BTW, I've switch to Jeti Spin 75 Opto ESC.....

I emailed Kontronik last year about my 15-14 and it also has 14 Poles.

Hello, I just purchased one of your Kora 15-14 motors and would like to know how many poles this motor has. I am using the Eagletree RPM sensor and it requires the motors # of poles for setup.

Thank you

Duh,
I just realized that I'm running 21T pinion with the Kora 15-12.

My previous statement still stands:
The Hyperion 3025-10 with 23T pinion seems more powerful that the Kora 15-12 with 21T pinion.

I'll go out tomorrow and make specific rpm measurements with the eLogger to get some numbers.

Are you using MAH blades?
Another RR member foudn them to be problem - bogging

I'm using SAB 60gr 3D blades.
Here's some data from Lepton #2 with the Kora :

Doesn't look so good, does it ? This is just flying around with some loops and rolls and two full power ascents. Collective is +9/-9 and cyclic +6/-6. The head speed drops significantly... it's about 2750 in a hover and goes all the way down to 2200 when I load it hard.

The rain started before I could collect data from Lepton #1.

What do you guys think ?
Thanks !
