So I did something stupid today without knowing what was going to happen. Now that I have two helis, my radio has two models in it. Well I wanted to test something on my King so I grabbed the radio, turned on the king and went to move some things around. I noticed that the swash was moving backwards. Oh yeah I am in model2. So I went to change to model one and it went to model 3. Anyone want to guess what happens next? Well since both my helis have ch3 reversed and by default each model has HOLD turned off ... see where I am going? So the heli spun up to full throttle and full pitch. Well I was just inches away but I was out of the danger zone. Having full pitch and throttle and no gyro (the gyro is shared with my Mini) means the heli started to slowly spin even though it was tied down to my box. So I grabbed the box and then reached under the heli to shut off my power supply. I am thankful this happened while hooked up to my power supply, that is for sure, cause without it my heli would have kept spinning and ended up on the floor. Anyhow on the way to the switch I got nicked by the blades on the end of my middle finger. No real damage but it hurt pretty good. So the only damage was my brand new HK blades. It appears that during one the slow piros on the workbench, it hit something and tore the covering on the tips of the blades.

So I lesson is this: Always make radio changes with the heli unplugged!!! Oh and set each model to have HOLD enabled just in case.

HERE HERE! One other thing I'll add. Spektrum has a feature called model match. During the binding process, the receiver is matched to the currently selected model. If you select the wrong model in the radio, the reciever won't initialize.

So after my little accident this morning, I took the Mini out for a spin at the local flying field. I was meeting my Raptor friend there and together we failed to get anything off the ground. The Raptor is hae some problem with his GY401. My Mini likes to dance and I mean bad.

I am currently trying to figure this one out. The gist of it is simple, something is out of balance or not centered on my Mini and it is driving me NUTS!!! I know some of you guys have had weird ongoing problems and now I have one. Everything looks and works great individually but put it all together and I have some bad vibs. Makes me want to fly my King cause no matter what I do to it, it flies great!

What a waste of a day

TJ, I can tell just by the sound of your mainblades, something is wrong with your pitch-- too much negative or the main blades are not going positive on spool-up .

I too hear the sound on the video but I can tell you that it doesn't sound the same in real life. I have the n-th curve set to 0-40-70-85-100 and n-pi curve set to 40-57-75-87-100 as the manual states. The heli does try to lift off about 1/2 stick.

I was already planning to check that that in a little while, I will post up what I find.

Have you experimented with the blade tightness?

FUTABA may not have "model match"...but nobodys helis are falling out of the sky because of brownouts

TJ....this heli was used...correct???....are you 100% sure the mainshaft is straight???....at 2000 RPM...a slight bend shows up big time

edit....that looks like blade grip bolt tightness to me....mine will do that if the main blade bolts are not tightened correctly.......also did you completely take apart the head to make sure all washers/bearings/spacers are correctly installed

I took the spindle out and checked it for straightness. Then I put it back together. Then I took it back apart and put it back together correctly

I have been playing with the grip tightness. I have tried loose enough so that if you lean the heli over, the blades fall and I have tried tight enough so that you have to brace the heli to bend them. And I have tried several in between but I will try some more.

I've been PM with TJ back and forth.....been through all that...we're trying a couple things now.....when you buy used you sometimes need to iron out some wrinkles......we'll get this heli flying.....there's no doubt of that

Ok so I may have found an answer. I bought the heli from a fellow RR guy and I finally remembered that he said to ask him if I had any issues. He had a suggestion I had not heard of or thought of trying. Lube the rubber dampeners. I had pulled the head apart and when I did, I had a hard time getting the spindle out. At the time I did not think much of it. So when I reassembled it I just put it back together like it was and it was tight. Anyhow I pulled a blade grip and added some light oil to the dampeners. Now the spindle moves more freely and when I spun it up, it seems way better. I won't actually know until I can get it outside and give it a try but it seems better and my hopes are up! Maybe the mini will fly after all

I will let you all know how it turns out.
