Here is a few more pictures. You can see where i cut the top so I could remove it without removing the head. I have everything back out of the fuse now dressing the rough edges and such. Have a 611 gyro on the way so should be ready for a flight in a week or so.

A tidy solution to what would have surely been a maintenance PITA.

I have a question,

I am thinking of putting one of these on my R90.

What do you do if you hydro lock, and have to pull the plug???

How much of a PITA is it??

This is what is keeping me from doing the TT MD500 scale fuse on another 90. I hyro lock once in while, try as I might not too.

I shudder to think how much work to would be to clear it, get to the plug.

Or LOL, do you just cut a big honking hole in the front...LOL??

bosshoss, I cut a air intake in the lower front of the fuse. With a extention on a 1/4" drive ratchet you can access the plug fairly easily. You can get to the remote glow extention wire through the cooling opening in the bottom under the head.

New to FAI Fuses

Great photo, thanks.

I am interested in these FAI fuses to cut my teeth , so to speak.

Are you guys wrapping the mufflers with heat shield, or running diverters out of the fuse?

That video is sweet, BTW.

I haven't wrapped the muffler although I did cut a vent to get fresh air to cool it. I don't have any flight time on it yet so time will tell if this is sufficiant.

RE the hydrolocking, there are few if any cases that cannot be cleared by first closing the fuel shut off, then holding the model vertically followed by turning the model on its side exhaust port down. Effectively, you pour the excess fuel out of the exhaust port. It may take a few tries, but this always works.

Yeah, the trick is to get the piston in the right spot, usually right between top and bottom. This can be hard on a Raptor, as the one way bearing in the clutch makes accurate piston positioning difficult using the start shaft.

Couldn't stand it any longer. Just had to see it fly even though it was just some hovering. The wind was about 25 mph and gusting but it handled it pretty well.

Looks sweet,man.

I want to use header wrap from the Hot Rod shop, and diverter tubes to the top exhaust ports on my MD500. I know their exhaust will be hotter than normal because of the wrap, but I can insulate the exhaust ports as well, and put stickers above the port that say:

Caution Hot Emissions!!

Don, fly the crap out of that and let us know how it holds up. ....for sure. Looks great, and could really be a chameleon with many ways color it up...

I got a couple of flights on the Blackshark today. Amazing how much difference the fuse makes. It was fast or maybe my shaking knees made it seem fast. It flew great and tracked very well. I am very pleased with it so far.

It's probably too late to ask, but how much did the fuse add to the overall weight? My second staysee has added 3/4 lb.

I didn't weigh the fuse empty but considering it lost canopy, tail fins, and tail boom supports and clamp, I can't see it adding much over 3/4 lb if that much.
