Hey, I'm not the only one that's broken an Actro shaft. It would be incredibly easy to add a top pinion support. Just didn't think I needed it. It had many, many flights on it before the shaft broke carrying fat aass 8000 packs which provided no more power (and thus a lower power to weight ratio) than the 5300 packs I preferred.

The Synergy uses a 124T main gear. the only problem i had with the Stratus was the gear ratio, when using the 32-3. 10:1 with a 32-3 (555KV) on 12s was pretty high head speed 2400 +. A 110T main gear would have been great but..

. Anyway the Neu 1915 1.5y (450KV) and the 24-5 (435KV) worked fine with a 9.5:1 and 8.18:1 altho i never got to try the 24-5 on 12s it was a pretty solid preformer on 11s and very light. Back to the Synergy 124T main 11T pinion got me 11.27:1 ratio or a 10T pinion will get a 12.4:1 ratio. so no belt is needed. most purpose built e helis all have a high tooth count main gear, i think for this reason.

Jokers...Nice but more for FAI style Flying

Thanks for all the info This has turned out to be a good tread.

So far we have some really great pics and info.

There have been 2 vidio links for an e stratos and a joker
Anybody have any more video links

Please keep up the dialog and sharing of info as I am learning a lot and sure others are following as well.

Jag I respectfully disagree that the joker is FAI, While it does have a slightly lower COG then some, the MFS makes it roll faster than any heli I have flown. On 12S it has plenty of power to compensate for the lower COG. It gets a bad rap because the majority of people use the maxi-joker for AP work. If you look at the present trend, more and more machines are going to a belt driven design, both EP and Nitro(Tony's avant and the new Avro from Blitz) the Joker 2 has that and boy is it smooth, and quiet.

for the cheapest look at the trex to convert , theres some GREAT prices on a used all blinged out trex 600s ,
in this threat look for the fellow named Phil , he has special tail booms made , then all you need is a thundertiger 60 torque tube , 10s pack with stock align frame

Joker...

I am very familiar with the joker and the MFS head...I have owned a couple of Jokers and have a 3DMPE...which has basically the same head...it's a GREAT flying heli...I just don't think it's quite as agressive as some of the other 3d machines I have tried..

How many hard core 3d pilots do you really see flying Jokers?

I'm not saying they won't so it...I did it with my Joker...but there are better machines for that type of flying...

I don't think the COG on the Joker2 is as far below the rotor disc as alot of the conversions out there! Due mainly to the motor being inverted above the main gear and the shorter main shaft which does not have to cater for a washout unit. Thats what helps the role rate.

Its one draw back I think is limited available pitch range. I don't think the +/-13 of the Logo's could be achieved.

Thats true fergus, you are limited to +-10 but it goes up so fast fast I hardly notice.
Jag: how many people out there are flying ANY 90 size electrics. I'd say I see as many of those as any other big electric.

Not many...In fact I hardly EVER fly the 90 sized electrics I have..Pucker factor is always a reason...Also..the 90 sized electrics just don't have the pop and performance as most of the smaller electrics...but you're right about the Joker being a popular 90 sized electric...in fact I'd say that the Joker is probably one of the MOST popular 90 sized electrics due to it's Outstanding performance for AP...

Just not a hard core stick banging 3d machine that's all...

I respect what Jag72 is saying about the Joker2 not being an all out 3d animal. If the MP-XL-E on 12s is then whats holding the J2 back. Can't be the MFS right? Anyone any thoughts? I would love to see one thrown around with a vbar to see what it can do.

Are the 600 vbars on 10s the ultimate for power to weight and the bigger machines on 12s just playing catchup?

Joker...

One thing that comes to mind about the joker for me is the pitch of the tail belt...the joker uses a very fine pitch on the tail belt...I would be afraid that the belt would slip if put under the extreme loads of 3d....

the XLE and 3dmpe's have a .200Xl style pitch on the belt...which is the same as the logos...and those don't seem to slip or have issues...Maybe I am way off base here but that's one thing that scared me about the joker..
Also..the Joker is a very heavy machine

and...the Joker booms are a bit thin and I have heard of them breaking in flight...but that's an easy fix...

I have never heard of a boom breaking in flight.
As long as you dont leave the belt loose I have never had a slip on either the Joker or the Acrobat.
I do agree that it is a little heavy but other than the batteries I dont know why, as it seems to weigh nothing sans packs, and the Acrobat is one of the lightest if not the lightest glow 90 in its class.

It's all good buddy...I'm just expressing my opinions as you are...I'm not saying I am right ..just trying to share my thoughts that's all..

I have never seen a joker boom break in flight but mine did crack after a few "Hard 3d flights"

it splintered a bit at the front where the boom goes into the frame...I replaced the boom with a Raptor 60 boom and it never posed a problem after that. I have read posts here though claiming broken booms on jokers in flight though

The CF boom for the Joker2 is not available anymore. I tried to order one from Gerd a few months back. I don't know if breaking in flight is the reason though.

That may be possible, I have always used just the alu boom, and its cool because it doesnt seem to expand or shrink enough to change the belt tension. One other thing that I like about the Joker is that it takes literally less that 10 minutes to chage pinions.
