e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > Looking for cheap brushless.

Hi all,

I am ordering things from Hobby City for my 3D electric and I am going to resurect my hummingbird FP. It's been sitting idle for a couple of years. I have replaced the 380 brushed motor several times and got fed up with it and stop flying it.
Now we have many selection of cheap brushless to choose from. I am sure some will fit nicely without buying a more expensive one like Razor.
I want to get my HB operational again. It's for occasional flying in a living room where I am bored. I also have a spare Futaha headlock gyro that I will use on it, the tail motor has been replaced with a longer size (GWS brand I think).
Can someone help me choose a brushless please.
I have 2S 900 mah but I will buy 3S if need to.

Thank you.

I've been using an E-Flite Park 370 4100kv on 2S lipo in my FP for a few years with great success. I use an HPI pinion (I believe it's an 8 tooth) made for the RS4 cars and it meshes nicely with the main gear. If you go this route, you need to grind out the frame a little bit to fit the pinion gear through it - no biggie though. You could also look at the Himax 2015-4100 - I think it's the same as the Park 370.

Thanks Rush.

From the specs it's a big motor for a HB FP?
You don't find it too heavy do you?
What lipo are you using and what is the flight time on hover? Thanks.

You're welcome! The Park 370 that I'm using is exactly the same weight as the stock motor (46g), but has a lot more power so it flies just fine I've used batteries ranging from old Etec 1200mAh to Prolite 1320mAh and get a good 15-20 minutes hovering/slow flight time (in the living room).

If you want to lighten the HB up a little you can use a smaller battery and still get a good run time - an 800mAh would get you a good 10 minutes. But, remember that a lighter FP heli has a lower headspeed which makes the cyclic response more "mushy" - something I don't like myself.

How about this

Do you think this is a good motor for a HB?
Will it fly okay on 2S?
How much throttle do you think I need to hover? Would be nice on 50%.
It comes with a 13T pinion so I don't need to drive around looking for pinions. They can be hard to come by.

Or a ligther motor with 5000KV. I can get 11T and 13T pinions on ebay for this shaft size.
