lhs

this is an issue that can be debated for years; probably has been.

if we don't support the lhs, it will become extinct. however, most hobby shops don't stock helicopter parts. therefore, you have to order the part, wait and hope it shows up. the price will almost always be higher than the straight mail order.

i still us the lhs if possible. sometimes i allow them to order a part; sometimes i go online.

if you are a good customer of the one man lhs, the owner is going to work with you. not only do you have a place to "hang out" but you get what you need at reasonable prices.

think about the "stuff" that you need that would be too expensive to mail order. foam; servo screws; servo arms; ball links, batteries, receivers, crystals, etc.

how many times have you spent $100 when you needed less than $10 worth of stuff but you wanted to make sure you got your monies worth after paying the shipping charge?

if we don't support the lhs, they will cease to exist. that does not mean we pay double for the product. however, i will pay a little extra for most items to make sure that the lhs survive.

another $ .02 worth what was charged!

just do it!

The Evil Catch 22

If we don't support the LHS, they can't afford to keep things on the shelf, which causes people to order online, which cuts into the profit of the LHS, which causes them to raise their prices....

It starts by showing your support and spending a few measily pennies more or having some patience when ordering parts.

The only time I order online is when the LHS doesn't have the connections needed to get what I want, or if I buy in bulk (like fuel), or if I am truely pressed to have it NOW. They will almost always appretiate your effort and reward you with fair pricing (chain stores not included).

Let's not forget the expertise in the many varried ends of our hobby that you can't get online.

Just something to think about,

Brian,
It sounds like your LHS doesn't want your bussiness. I would probably not rush right out to buy stuff from them either. I drive an extra half hour to go to a Hobby Store that wants my bussiness, and they appretiate it (Thanks Tim RC MotorSports ).

I know that some stores hold your order until they can fill a minimum order. . I usually go somewhere else.

LHS and networking........

Yep, I enjoy my LHS (several).....Mark over at Absolute Heli is a great resource for xcell and rappy parts.....and he will jump on a request and order something you need right away......never an issue with returns either. We joke about a visit being "above or below average".......meaning more or less than 100 bucks.....
Another LHS has a few heli items......more for plankers, although the manager does fly heli as well.......I've picked up the odd job or two that needs parts replaced, a set-up done, ect......in turn I get a nice discount, first dibbs on deals, and treated better than most. They also have a train department...with a working setup that amazes my kids.....no pissin and moaning about Dad needs to go get something at the hobby shop.....and that is fine by me.
Not to say that Ron Lund and Nathan don't have my credit card # on file......all I need to do is call Nathan, tell him what I need, and say goodbye. It is here the next day. Same with high end radio gear......a quick email to Peter, and its on the way, at a price no one can touch....
Bottom line.....we can support both.......effectively......if we want to. Just a matter of access and desire.............

Thats MY story, and I'm stickin to it !
