I have an OCTANE DOMINATOR 26 with Quick 700mm main blades and I am
trying to setup the futaba governor GV-1. My problem is that to have a
head speed of around 1800rpm and a gear ratio of 7.33 (88 teeth to 12
teeth) the engine would be turning at 13000rpm which is very high for
the G26 engine. My question is what should be the speed of the main
rotor blades and what speed should the engine be turning?

I am currently looking at going to this particular heli and have been doing some research on this particular engine you are talking about. I ran across the following link/instruction manual for the G26.

http://h1071671.hobbyshopnow.com/Pr...gine_Manual.pdf

On page 12 of the manual in this link they mention to set the heli engine for 9,000 to 10,000 RPM and that the max power output is at 12,000. As far as heli specifics go, I am too new to the hobby to be of much help, but I wanted to get in here and point to some info on that engine.

Sounds like you might want to consider a different pinion.

Do you need to run that much headspeed on this heli?

you would be pushing the engine at its max range with that setup. i would get an 13 tooth pinion. that would give you a 6.77 and put you at 12,186 on motor for 1800 head. should give you good preformance there. i dont have a 26 i do have the 231 on 2 preditors and i run them at 1900 with that setup. and the weight of your 26 and the preditor is really close. i am in working on getting my 20 dominator out and tested this week hope this helps dave

head speed

I have stated using a head speed of 1800 rpm because the Octane Dominator 26 manual suggests a head speed from 1650 to 1950 rpm which is almost impossible to reach with the standard G26PUH and the gears supplied in the helicopter kit. Anyone changed the 12 teeth motor pinion or the 88 teeth main gear?

I'm running a GV-1 with my setup. In normal I am at 1650 rpm and in idle up 1 I am running 1750. I haven't ran into any trouble with the engine. I'm using a Zimmerman muffler, and the engine runs great at either rpm. Honestly the engine doesn't sound like it is screaming at all, and has a lot more power left. I talked with QWW about a 13t pinion, but told them to let me fly it some more to see how it does. I guess I have been running the GV-1 with those headspeeds for well over 25 gallons without any engine issues. After flying it for over 10 gallons after I talked with QWW, I decided to stay with the 12 tooth. The engine seems extremely happy and everything looks good through the exhaust port. I think that 1800 may push it a little hard, but with the settings that I am running, loops and rolls, flips and stall turns and some inverted don't seem to labor the heli at all. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me or post and I will do what I can to answer your questions.
