Main Discussion > Flying Thumbs - Switched To Pinch Technique

The fellow who taught me to fly in the mid 1970s told me to learn with fingers since you will have much more precise control. I followed his suggestion and was never sorry I did.

One suggestion is to lengthen your sticks for flying with fingers.

Just my $.02!

Thumbs

Because I am new at this, sometimes I have a hard time sorting out what the thread is talking about because of the termonology. I am learning to fly on G2 and I use my thumbs on the sticks. Could somebody tell me what the pinch technique is, and if I should be trying to learn to fly with that method, or is the way I am practicing now the best way to start out. For those of you that wrote in on the thread about 4.8 or 6.0v batteries that was a great thread I didnt know that there was so much to know about batteries.

Thanks you keep writing I'll keep reading

Dadman, the pinch technique is simply placing the index finger in front of the stick, and placing your thumb behind the stick, therefore sandwiching the stick in between. This is the alternative to placing your thumb on top of the stick. Opinions vary as to what works best, so my advice would be to try it both ways, and see what works best for you. In my case the "pinch techinque" works best for me. I have better control, and tend not to over correct, with this method. BTW, I actually use a variation of this method. I place my index finger in front of the stick, and my thumb on top of the stick. Try it out!

Got some more flights in today.

I've had about 12 tanks using the pinch
method. I was doing some inverting flying, working on inverted hovering ( high ) and noticed that while using the pinch method my dual rate switch is a little hard to flip.

Maybe I just need a little more time getting used to it, but its odd to flip it right now.

Other then that, its working out great.
I like doing some low ground work, ie: piro hovering, piroing in straight and working on piro circles.... its more precise now then ever.
