Main Discussion > the ultimate swash leveling tool no money needed!

This i got off RR and is not my idea, wish i new who the original creator was. Ive spent over 150.00 dollars on such devises and this is the simplest and most accurate of the bunch. And i have it in my tool box. This is just one of the things that I've found just by asking questions. Some of the answers were (just buy new don't be a tight a$$) I'm always looking to pick the brains of some of the most creative people in this hobby( not just gadgets). Remember the first digital red led watches? Guess what most of them have gone back to the old analog dial.

If it doesn't fly sell it!

Seems like the swash could be tilted even when it hits the allen wrench. Am I missing something?

I would think you would need at least 2 allen wrenches on there on 2 points or you could be off. Plus you are trusting Allen Wrenches to be at 100% 90 deg angles....pretty iffy to me.

I think you just spin the main shaft to check the other two points.

Your eyes are playing tricks on you, Give it a go. After i used this even the digital inclinometer confirmed it! It was right on 00.1 deg on all clock positions. Dont need 2 wrenches just spin the main shaft around to each ball link. I then checked it with my pitch gauge(which by the way is 1 deg off to the + side). This is 0deg with the tail boom not the floor or the table, its 0deg with the heli!!! Give it a try, you will be surprised!

How do you know for a FACT that the wrench is at 90 degrees???

Just buy the real thing. Heck you should already have with all the money you spent...

The allen wrench doesnt need to be exactly 90 degrees. It only needs to be rigid enough to be a reference point. Those triangular table levels work well to after you drill a hole in them for the shaft.

Get a life? How the hell do you fly a life?

Simple, yet effective
You have to love how creative people can be.
I also agree that the wrench doesnt have to be at 90 degrees, you are just checking the distance to the points on the swash plate.
The only way this method could be off is if the mainshaft was bent.
Thanks for sharing this idea with us.

Just eyeball the damn thing. Never understood the use of "swash levelers"... You don't need them...

I guess I never understood why people bash a post like this
If you want to "eyball it" then do it, and if you don't think this tool will work for you then forget it, but why do people have to come here and give all the reasons that they think something won't work????
Who knows, you just might learn something.

Thank you for submitting new ideas, keep them coming

Seen and tried and have heard of the eye ball thing, Please spare us, you know as well as all of us that pression in balancing and leveling everything makes for a tight smoooooth spinning heli. Even take a square the the Allen wrench you will see 4 out of 5 will be 90 deg. After you get it level at o deg at o pit go full pos pitch and check again and you might need a little mix to make up for the off machining of the frame. Then do full neg same way. Once its set go fly! you will notice no upward pitch or nose down in fff.no matter what collective position! Rollover and its smooth and precise.

If it doesn't fly sell it!

I wasn't bashing, just questioning. I am allowed to do that right? I never blindly accept a new idea without examining it. We might think of something the poster did not. That is the POWER of the RR collective.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. I know it's been mentioned before but RR desperately needs a hints and tips forum. This would be a sticky at the top of it.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
