Blades, Night Flying and Painting > How to do autos with Radix600 ?

Hi !

Ive done some hundred autos with my evo50 with stock blades (FRP600).
I feel confident in autos now, so I bought Radix600. After all I read about them I thought they would auto great.

But I got really confused after the first auto. There wasnt much reserve in rpm after the auto. I had to use all pitch to make a safe landning. Tried perhaps 15 autos and after a while it got better..I found that I should be gentle with the pitch after flare.
So, it got a bit better but the "Wow" feeling didnt come.

So, I guess I dont do right. Any tips & trick from experienced Radix flyers ?

I have not used the SB blades but the regular Radix around 140 plus grams auto very well. Any blade that weighs around 120 grams is not going to give much hang time.

I have been flying the normal Radix 600 ever since they were first introduced and they auto great, and as long as I do it right I will have some hang time on the end.
The Radix 600SB are used more for popping it around, they will still auto good but it will be quick.

Hi !

My Radix 600 is the regular kind, not stick bangers(if not they put the wrong oneŽs in the box. I will check the weight today.

Compared to the stock hirobo blades(FRP600, weight 132gram) the hang time is less, at least if I use the same tecnique.

I believe its posible to get a better glide tale/longer distance in autos with the radix.

I guess I have to change the way to use pitch in order to get more hang i the auto with this blades.

I learned how to auto with radix blades,As far as I know they are the best!!I know theres some blades out there with more hang time but has to be the best overall blades

Root angle of the new blades may be different from the old ones. Have you checked? When l autoed falcon`s 600 it seemed fine to me although l think the BBT`s may be slightly better in the auto but then l`m used to them.

I think that I have tried every major blade but the radix. What I have found is that the blade weight has a lot to do with autos. Roto tech 610's are by far the worst for autos. But, they are quick on the cyclic.

I'll be trying out the new Maverick G5 blades this weekend if weather permits.

I am sure I'll be trying out the radix, soon. I'll probably go with the regular, and not the unleaded. My 600n is pretty quick on the cyclic as is.

I'd rather be flying

The Radix don't seem to retain the energy as long as the V-TST's Im running now. They must be lighter than the V's.

The other thing about the Radix that I noticed is that when they get in to the down wash they want to keep going down...the V's don't do that at all. I guess it has something to do with the airfoil size. Not sure though.

The Radix are sure quiet though, smooth as glass...

Thanx for the answers.

Did some weight check this evening, Radix 140gram and Hirobo(stock blades)135gram. Radix has the C of G about 5cm/2" more to the tip.
So if we look at inertia the Radix should have some more hang in the end of the auto.

I guess I should be more genlte with the pitch and not use more then needed. IŽll try it tomorrow.

Yep, I got it right yesterday. Had to be gentle on the pitch to get the hang I was looking for. I didnt find the difference to the stock FRP blades that big that I was expecting, but at least a little better.

ya man,if you do it right you can lift back off the ground for a couple of seconds at the end of the auto.i havent tried the SB version yet but they are going on my bird soon.you may try a higher headspeed,if you start with more inertia you have a better start on the auto.

Personally I learned to auto on a pair of 603mm MAH lol... I never realized that those are probably the worst blades you can do an auto (super light, almost no profile and chord wise over 11mm less than radix ). Anyway, when I got the radix (normal at 142.5gr) autos were incomparable. The hang time was SO long it was a joke compared to the MAH's.

I finally got my hands on some SB's at 126.9gr and I'll be testing them shortly. Chord wise they are exactly the same as the standard so the only real difference is the weight. Lets see how it goes

With my Radix 600mm blades I usually end up giving 5-7 degrees pitch during auto's and works out fine... but while having forward momentum and while keeping the disk flat. I guess that goes without saying, but...

I agree with Sam. Don't auto straight down, make sure you have forward airspeed that you can trade at the end for lift. I can actually do decent auto's with only about -2 degrees of pitch, but YMMV.

I learned on Mav G4 blades.. talk about difficult blades to auto! The Radix rock.. I can auto with my eyes closed with them.
