e-Hirobo SRB Quark - Lepton - XRB Coaxial > Sorry Hirobo Lepton. I apologize. ;)

I just wanted to say that I was wrong. I have been a critic of the Lepton for some time, citing tail holding issues and bogging issues. I have been under the mindset that a pair of blades cannot simply be the cause for so much bad performance issues I had been experiencing with my Lepton. Then I tried the MAH 425s on my TRex 500 and the 500 bogged as much as my Lepton.

So today, I finally got a chance to fly the Lepton with the Align CF 425mm blades and sure enough, it performed very well. I still have to get my pitch setup just the way I wanted it but as far as I can tell, I've got a new heli, one that performs much better than it has ever performed in the past, all with new blades.

Sorry Lepton. It was the MAH blades that caused poor 3d performance. They're good for FF but not for aggressive 3D.

That's okay, its all subjective.

Just glad you found something that worked better for you.

Maybe it was just that pair of blades that was the problem. If you want to send them back, we can look at them and replace them if necessary.

Just let me know.

Honestly,

It was 2 different sets of the 425mm blades, the ones used on the TRex 500 were new (until I got locked out and crashed). I like the 710s for my 90 sized heli but had problems with the 425mm blades.

Bummer,

Offer still stands.

Glad you like the 90 size versions.

It takes a man to say that! Congrats on your success with the new blades.

Jeff,

I'm having success with the MAH 400mm...... Although I think the ones I'm using is not 3D..... I got it from Belgium, and it's showing that MAH made it for Robbe Eolo.... And Eolo I think is not a 3D machine..... Maybe you could communicate to MAH, for us, for them to make 3D version of it...... I like the way my Leptons tail is holding now with the 400mm blades MAH for Eolo...... The problem is when I run HS over 2650rpm cyclic responsiveness is inconsistent.... Sometimes realy fast, and sometimes sluggish....

docjoe,

That's a great idea..... I might try to borrow my friend Align 425's to see how it works with my Lepton with "chinese weighted" tail blade grips....

Hey, since when are the mah 425's not good 3D blades? That's an incredible assertion from my experience. I run them on a 5s setup at 2900 rpm's. If there are better blades, good deal, but these blades do some amazing things from where I sit and I think a lot of pilots love them on the Lepton.

2 + 2 = 5 for extremely large values of 2.

You know I may have gotten a bad batch of blades. I'll send my good set back to you Jeff. Please PM me your info and I'll send it back to you. I'm willing to give MAH another chance.

The MAH blades seem to auto very well, though. I love autoing my Lepton.

docjoe,
thanks for sharing what you found. Since I fly MAH425mm, my Lepton has the bogging issues too. I am very disappointed because it is not cheap but honestly, MAH425 makes my Lepton fly like +20% power more.

I will try to buy a pair of Align 425mm and see what it can improve but there is out of stock in my country now.

There were some heavier sets of blades initially. I wonder if those are what you have. I'll check. Those heavier sets did auto nicely, but did not fly aggressively. My understanding is those were not production made, just for testing comparisons. You never know nowadays.

We'll take a look at them and take care of them accordingly.

We had MAH 385's but I would not have thought to use them on a Lepton. There would be less torque for the tail with a shorter disk, so that does make sense. But 425's have been a good size to use and the MAH's had good "pop" to them.

NOpe I wouldn't bother using 385's..... They're good only up to 1400g machine..... Anything heavier it flies like a pig..... This 400mm MAH I got seems to work pretty well with my 1613g Lepton.... It's heavier than the 425's I had before... Shorter chord and thicker profile...... That's why I have the idea that it's not a 3D blade but rather FAI....... I just wish MAH would make 400mm 3D version for Lepton..... Maybe even 410's......
