I was thinking about this and want to know - why is it that on step 1-2 in the manual of putting the tail drive gear assembly together that you are suppose to put thread lock on the top and bottom of the shaft? I did not do that in my build and was wondering why it would say to do that.

To lock the shaft to the bearings. This way the shaft does not spin inside the bearings inner race - causing wear. For this type of joint you would use green loctite (often called bearing retainer).
